Advantages: Ease of emptying, small to store, fairly powerful.

Disadvantages: Not stair friendly; no better than normal cylinder cleaner, expensive to repair

I bought one of these two years ago and it has been solely used on one floor of my house. At the same time I bought a Vax tub for downstairs and a small Daewoo (£10.00 in the sale) for the top floor.

I must say that the Dyson is a sturdily built machine and will take all the knocks. However, try to balance it on the stairs and then vacuum! This, surely, is a design fault. Once upon time Dyson prided themselves on producing the perfect machine for stair cleaning as it was designed to "sit" on the stairs. Not any more! You have to juggle with the brush and be prepared to catch the cleaner when it slides down the stairs.

Ok, this is a fairly OK machine, but for the huge difference in cost compared to most others, the price is not justified. In fact, the pick up on my machine is now so poor that I have had to replace it with the new Panasonic dual cyclonic cylinder machine at £99.99, which does a far better job at much less cost (albeit that this, too, does not sit nicely on the stairs).

To sum up; in my opinion you don't get what you pay for with this Dyson. Basically, it works, but no better than anything else, and I wouldn't buy another one unless they were drastically reduced in price. They are also much more expensive to repair than standard cleaners.

Summary: Just another expensive vacuum cleaner.

'Sturdily built' up to a point, the plastic attachments do tend to break, I've had to replace the hose once and the brush head twice!

I think you are supposed to leave the machine at the bottom of the stairs and stretch the hose LOL! D :)
