Dyson DC08 Origin Dark Steel/Yellow Cylinder Cleaner.
---------- ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------- -----------
As far as luck with household electricals go with me it is all or nothing at all as when one seems to come to the end of its life cycle all the others soon follow in its footsteps. Any way that is my little moan out of the way, back to the reviewing.
I recently found myself having to replace my old vacuum cleaner when it reached retirement age and after searching through all the many makes and models with varied features I decided to go for the Dyson DC08 Origin Dark Steel/Yellow Cylinder Cleaner. The reason for my choice is that I have heard Dyson are top quality and I needed a good cleaner due to having asthma and a very furry dog.
After then browsing through the various retailers of this model I found myself purchasing it from Argos as it was on offer from £199.99 down to £174.99 and still is if anyone want one, so hurry. (I should be on commission from Argos.)
About the Dyson DC08
-------------------------------
When purchased from Argos, you can obtain the Dyson DC08 with a full five years parts and labour warranty included for £174.99 as it is on promotion. You can simply register you guarantee by either phone, online or post and details are included in your package with you instruction manual. Please note there are terms and conditions to this warranty, which are also in a small booklet enclosed with the instructions.
The Dyson DC08 is a bagless cylinder cleaner which boasts Advanced Dyson 'cyclone' technology and a contact head™ which articulates to pick up more dirt. This cleaner with its five-stage washable filtration system has a two-litre dust capacity with 1400 watts of suction power and altogether it weighs just 8.5kg. Due to the advanced shape of the base unit, this cleaner is able to boast the fact that it sits comfortably on the stairs as well as easily roll along flat surfaces due to the three wheels it hosts. The two larger back wheels of this cleaner are fixed in position but the front under wheel is capable of rotating 360º.
The Dyson DC08 has a button retractable 6.5 m flexible cord cable, which allows the cable to be stored inside the base unit when not in use. It also has both a stretch hose and adjustable telescopic Aluminium hose for easy height adjustments and is supplied with its multifunction adjustable floor head with rotating brush bar as well as a crevice tool, a small brush head tool and a stair tool. There is a tool fitting clip supplied for easy tool storage with the Dyson DC08 and has a dustbin full indicator included as well.
My Opinion.
-----------------------
Right lets start with assembly, well the Dyson DC08 is very straight-forward to assemble and has full detailed and diagrammed instructions on how to do this included in the user manual supplied with the cleaner, should you be unsure. The pieces clip together securely and are held in position by a clip mechanism, which are made yellow in colour to make them clearly visible. You have to release these yellow clip locks to disassemble the appliance.
The Dyson has fantastic suction and I was amazed to see how much dirty and dust it removed from what appeared to be a clean carpet. I find the fact that the dust collection department of the cleaner is clear not only for the fact that you can view the level in the dust department but also as it goes to show what was really lurking on the floor which was not clearly visible to the human eye. The clear plastic dust collection section also has an indicator level on t to show when the cleaner is getting nearer to being full. I will warn you however that on a noise scale, this is quite a noisy cleaner, but then again the cleaning power and suction capabilities more than compensate for that.
To empty the Dust collector bin section you need to remove the complete filtration system that it is clipped to as well but the good thing is they completely remove from the base unit to stop dust spilling everywhere and they also come off without having to remove the hose etc. Both the clear section and the grey filter sections have handles and this it to enable you to be able to easily handle both sections when you separate them at the centre join by releasing the relevant yellow clip. Once separated you can simply brush over the outer panel of the internal filter with a small brush to remove any dust left on there. You simply empty the clear plastic dustbin section out and it is suitable for washing when emptied but please be sure to check that it is completely dry before re-assembling it to the filter system and base unit.
The On/Off switches, which are situated on the base unit of this cleaner, are yellow and stick out slightly this allows you to be able to operate them with your foot as well as you hand if you have trouble bending down as I do. The filter system on this Dyson are great as well as they can easily be removed and washed, but you must be sure to dry the filters thoroughly before replacing them in the cleaner. There are full detailed and diagrammed instructions on how to do this in the user manual supplied with the cleaner.
As I have said this cleaner comes with a great and well-detailed instruction manual which is set out in 17 languages, it also gives you important safety instructions on using the cleaner as well as full Dyson contact details for each relevant country as well. Advice on how to check for and remove any blockages in the Dyson is also given in the instruction manual as well as detailed diagrams.
Finally, I would like to mention the rewind system on this model of Dyson as it is a great improvement to other manufacturer’s automatic cord rewind facilities. You would normally expect the cord as it does with other cleaners to be pulled in very fast and this I have always found very annoying and put you at risk of being hit in the foot with the plug of the appliance or the ankle. This is not the case with this cleaner as they have managed to incorporate a slow and controlled cable rewind system to avoid this from happening.
Altogether I think this is a fantastic cleaner and is of very high quality I therefore give it 9.9/10 for quality and performance. If you need a good quality cleaner then I recommend this one.
Summary: I love this cleaner and give it 9.9/10 so far anyway.

- 06/10/06 I prefer the upright Dysons, but this one would be better for doing the stairs - will have to think about swapping with my mum as she has this little cylinder one and lives in a bungalow! |

- 06/10/06 I still think they're overpriced and highly susceptable to breakage - nice review though! |
