Advantages: Cleans well, adaptable, reliable, not too heavy
Disadvantages: The price
I bought my Dyson almost 3 years ago, I have to admit when it came to purchasing it I didn't even look at any other brand of vacuum cleaner, my parents had one of the first generation Dysons for seven years, so I felt that they were pretty much the best thing out there.
I paid around £190 for it in John Lewis, I probably would have thought twice about the price but we were given a lot of John Lewis vouchers as wedding presents so I put these towards the cost
At first I wasn't really keen on the apperance of this particular model of Dyson, as with most of their models, it is mostly grey but some bits of it are white and some of the handels and knobs are a transparent yellow. It has grown on me though and I now actually think it looks pretty good.
The DC14 is an upright hoover and I feel this means it is much quicker to use than other types of hoover such as those which are like Henry hoovers, although people who use these might disagree! The main reason I bought this particular model was that it is suitable for use on both carpets and hard floors, there is an adjustment knob on the right hand side of the the bottom front part of the hoover which you twist depending on what surface you are hoovering on.
The DC14 comes with a flexible telescopic wand which can be used on its own or with one of the three attachements which fit perfectly into the end of it. You can also remove the wand from the telescopic tube and just put the attchements straight into the tube, I find this particularly useful when hoovering the stairs.
The DC14 has lifelong filters, these are supposed to be washed every six months. This means that really there is no necessary expenditure needed once you have purchased the hoover.
The suction on my Dyson has stayed as good as new, as promised by Dyson.
I can't fault this hoover, it's reasonably light to move around, I don't have any trouble carrying it upstairs.
I know a quite a few people who have found Dysons to be very unreliable, but I have had no problems with mine. There are only two of us in the house and we don't have any pets, so I suppose it isn't required to do as much cleaning as people with kids or pets.
Summary: Works for me!

- 15/08/09 Well covered. I know what you mean about not having pets. It seems to be a problem with Dysons in general; owners put them through extraordinary experiences that other vacs can't handle and then wonder why they don't last. |
