Advantages: Strog, durable, futuristic looking

Disadvantages: suction is questionable and hosing far too stiff

The Dyson DC14 Animal proudly stands like a cyborg in my living room ready at a moments notice to burst into action. Impressive in style and design the whole construction of the Dyson screams quality and class.
There are the standard tool offerings such as the crevice tool and the little brush attachment and a hard brush that all fit neatly around the top where the Dyson's famous root cyclone technology is housed.
Dyson have tried being clever by making the wand come out by simply pulling the handle of the Dyson up and out. Then you can extend the wand out of its sheathing. The wand is attached to some very strong and coiled plastic hosing. Unfortunately, this hosing is a bit too stiff and awkward and when using the hose/wand it doesn't spread out evenly and smoothly as any other cheaper vacuum cleaner does.Therfore, when you are using the hose to get under a table or chair it can become quite a chore to manoeuvre it in and out of position.
My other bugbear is about its suction capabilities. It sounds quite impressive when turned on and you can immediately feel the powerful suction, just by putting your hand over the top of the handle/wand. However, I have a dog and the Dyson continually struggles to pick up every piece of dog hair which surprised me considering the price of this cleaner. I then have to pull out the hose and wand to clean up the remaining stubborn dog hairs.I know other users have rated this very highly but I can only give my honest opinion of this product.
There is plenty of cable to manoeuvre from one room to another without swapping plugs, and the emptying of the gathered dust is a cinch by easily pulling the whole compartment from the cleaner and then pushing down on a button that opens the base allowing the rubbish to fall out.
It is advertised with "edge cleaning" but in my experience it doesn't pick up dust and fibres as efficiently at the edges.
The filters do an excellent job of reducing dust disturbance and almost eliminating any dusty smells.

Prices can can range from anything from £200 to £300 so please be aware and shop around for the best price available. Valueland have an excellent deal on them at the moment of £219.99.

To sum up I think the Dyson is of superb quality and extremely tough and durable but I think that the company have made a few mistakes in their design by trying to be unique from other vacuum cleaners.

Summary: An expensive item that does most, but not all that is expected

Would be good to update your review with the price you paid on this model. Also is it noisy in use and is the filter sufficient enough to keep back the pet hair and general dust odour?

As for your pick up problem, it definately sounds like you may need a new roller beater brush bar or simply get down on your knees and take it out and give it a darn good clean - wrapped hairs around a beater brush can push down the bristles making pick up far more difficult - also the edge brushes may need cleaning too.
