My Mom has her own cleaning company and I have been going on jobs with her for a minimum of 2 hours per week for about 7 years. Therefore, I have been able to test a variety of different vacuum cleaners and can make experienced comparisons between many different models. This model is the main one we have used over this time and it has generally been great. After about 4 or 5 years it is still being used everyday as it seems almost as good as it was the day it was purchased, however it is starting to show signs of decline. Considering we have been using it very intensively, it has probably worked the equivalent of a vacuum cleaner in the hands of a general household would in about 15 years or maybe even more. if you think about it like this and also consider that it is still going, this vacuum cleaner is extremely reliable and has been more than worth the money paid for it. The signs that show me that it is starting to "die" is a slight loss of suction (despite Dyson repeatedly saying how Dysons don't lose suction). I assume this is due to some internal component starting to wear out through repetitive usage and is to be expected. It also now released all of the smells of other houses (especially those with pets) as it cleans. This is despite all filters being cleaner regularly and the vacuum being maintained too. The build quality on Dyson vacuum cleaners is always excellent and this model is no exception. It is very sturdy and can handle being knocked around cars, floors, walls furniture and even handles being dropped down a few stairs a couple of times. *The performance I will review for when it was in top condition* The performance of this vacuum cleaner is pretty good, it will clean up the majority of dirt with ease without having to repeatedly go over the same spot multiple times. The main thing it seems to struggle with is pet hair, however as this is NOT the animal model of this vacuum cleaner then I cannot expect it to, if you need to regularly clean up masses of pet hair then go for an animal model. Emptying the vacuum cleaner, as with many of the other Dyson vacuum cleaners, is easy. Simply click a button to detach the dirt chamber and then click it again whilst over a bin to release the base and have the dirt fall in. Then the chamber simply slots back into place on the vacuum cleaner. There are also filters which have to be cleaned out every 6 months but have a lifetime guarantee on them so you will never have to buy a replacement! The vacuum is very easy to maneuver despite not having Dyson's famous ball technology. Personally, I do not see much point in the ball, it doesn't seem to make it any easier or harder to move a vacuum cleaner with one or without one in our opinions.
Had this for about 5 years now, showing no signs of wear and tear, still as good as it was when i got it out the box. Quality >>>> As stated above, the device is made, in part, from the same materials used in riot shields, so as you'd imagine, makes it a very hard wearing product. I'm pretty sure this thing could deal with being thrown down the stairs. Even when being bitten by the dog, shows no signs of damage. Comes with a good set of attachments, the brush being god for dusting, with a crevice and stair tool. No real need to spend more on extras. They tweaked some old design weakness on the the previous model, mainly: The hose used to rub and eventually ripped at the connection point > They have added in a piece of flexible rubber that adjusts to which direction you pull the hose in. Done the job. The crevice tool used to get stuck and cause the machine to pull violently > place a hole on the side. Fixed. Annoying to empty > Place a button with an under hinged flap for easy emptying. Fixed. Only issue with this one is that the handle about halfway up, is apparently not for lifting the machine, but as its quite heavy often gets used, and cracks have started to form... Cleaning >>>> Great suction, picks up dog hair as well as dust and what ever else. This isn't the animal version, but deals with this pretty well when you go over it a couple of times. Easy to clean the filter every 6 months or so. Very long power lead, allows me to do most of the house from a central plug. Hose long and allows you to do the stairs leaving it at the bottom. Also an option to switch between wooden and carpeted flooring.
Picture this if you will: A tall and slender young woman stuck half way up her staircase with a bulky and inflexible not to mention heavy vacuum cleaner - she struggles onwards an upwards with sweat on her brow from the exertion and the heat being produced from the cleaner eventually reaching the top and very glad about it too! The only thing is that now the poor girl has to lug this beast down the staircase again! Phew - with that done there is one more chore to be done before the blue beast is put away. The whole emptying of the dust bag session - and what a performance that is from the tricky disconnection to the very dusty and inhaling ghastly amounts of dust and allergens to the ever so niggly reconnection. This was my experience of cleaning the staircase and emptying the bag prior to researching and discovering my knight in shiny armour - oh my kingdom for a Dyson DC14. Yes after thorough research with three very important issues to address ( 1. weight 2. hose length 3. ease of emptying and maintaining) and of course price as we all like value for money don't we - I spotted the Dyson DC14 now known as The Saviour or Knight in Shining Armour! Believe me this is exactly true for me. I ordered and The Saviour cost £119 in the sale at Currys - I think this is a great price as with this cleaner you are most certainly getting what you pay for and more besides. Arriving in a well presented and protective box and packaging the Dyson itself is an attractive piece of kit. This guy is silver (knight in shining armour!) and yellow and has some red buttons too! Nice, I am well pleased and impressed before I have even tried him out. Along with the cleaner comes a great user friendly 'user guide' and this is presented in picture format which I find really easy to follow, there are even little images on the cleaner itself to show you how to attach and detach, open and close, switch on and off etc etc. What about the Damsel in distress's 3 wishes? 1. Weight - this cleaner is much lighter than the beast and so easy to lift as it has a handle and it seems to glide effortlessly along any kind of floor - carpet or wood or tile! 2. Hose length - Yes Yes Yes and Oh Yes! The damsels eyes lit up when she saw the capability of this hose, the staircase is never again to be a problem for this girl as the hose reaches from the floor at ground level and right to the very top step! How long is that! Mighty impressive and makes this job so easy. The hose has three attachments that sit on top of the cleaner base that you can use on the staircase and makes cleaning a joy! Results are great as the suction is awesome. 3. Emptying and maintenance - Joy oh Joy! This is oh so simple as you just press a button and off comes the dust carrier - out you go to the bin and press the release button and hey presto you are done. Click back in place and you are ready again to see the Knight in action. Filter cleaning is very easy too and there are step by step picture guides to show you how...simples! The Knight has a great length of power cord which allows for plenty cleaning action from one space to another without needing to change plug sockets. You can purchase a range of extra attachments eg for dusting or different turbine heads for the hose for low floors or difficult to reach thin nooks and cranny's. So many options. My husband steals my Knight away and cleans his car with the flexible and sturdy, high suction hose - he thinks it is great! You can adjust the brush height easily with a roller function on the front of the cleaner for hard floors or carpets. Picture this if you will: A tall and slender young woman glides from step to step with a smile on her face and singing merrily as she cleans the steps with the long hose. Once finished she simply turns and dances down the steps of the staircase and reconnects the hose to an impressive knight that is in shining armour. She notices that the cleaner could do with emptying so she effortlessly glides the eager cleaner along the floor and carefully caresses the release button so that she can take the container and empty the contents in the bin. She returns and gleefully clicks the container back in place - now what a difference that is! Do you think I would recommend this cleaner to you today - mmm lets think for a millionth of a nano second - absolutely yes! Go get yourself a Knight in shining armour - you deserve it! Thanks for reading.
I bought this Dyson as a replacement for my previous one and I have to say I have been very impressed with how good this picks up. It doesn't feel too heavy when it is used and the suction on it is great. The attachable tools are also really handy for those hard to get places and the stairs. The emptying of the container is really easy compared to my DC01 and all the mess emptys from the bottom. The design of the cleaner is also nice being black and grey (instead of the yellow of previous models). There was only one overall problem I found with the hoover and that was the hose length to begin with but over time it is stretching further due to constant use. If you want a good hoover to pick up on carpets or flooring then I would highly recommend this and it is a good price and the 5 year guarantee is excellent.
When my last vacuum cleaner lost it's suction, i decided enough was enough and i should go bagless. and it was the best decision i have made. This is one of the most basic Dyson's available yet it's suction is superb. The worst thing about buying a Dyson is the first time you use it it sucks up all the dirt and grime which your previous cleaner has left behind. Truely horrific but at least you get to learn how to empty the cleaner quickly. Which i might add is extremely easy (even my husband can manage!). The telescopic arm is so long i can clean to the top of the stairs which is good because it isn't the lightest vaccuum. I also find it handly to use the arm with the brush attachment to clean the picture rails in my house. A word of warning though, if you have old/cheap carpets the powerful suction can suck them up too, leaving them threadbare. I also recently brought the hard floor attachment (£20 direct from Dyson) which is very useful for cleaning laminate floors.
We have recently purchased a new dyson and are extremely happy with it. Before our newest one we had our old dyson for 8 years and it was only right towards the end that the suction was not quite as strong and so I decided to treat myself to a new toy! The suction on the DC14 is outstanding. We have a lionhead house rabbit and when he molts, boy does he molt! Sometimes when you are sitting down you will see wafts of grey fur float past you. When he molts I just cannot imagine using a vacuum with a bag. We half fill the dyson in just two hoovers of the house! Now I know dyson cleaners are expensive but if you have a pet, I imagine you will make you money back in bag savings pretty quickly. Also, it brings the carpets up well and really seems to fluff them up. Where there are indentations from chair or table legs, a few goes over with the dyson and they pretty much bounce back to their original condition. This happens throughout the house on different carpets so I do not think it is just good quality carpet. I am sure it is the strong suction of the dyson. The hose is easy to use. I'm a bit lazy so tend to stretch the hose as far as possible, rather than unplug the dyson and move it. I think I have only once managed to pull the cleaner over when doing this and I did give it a hefty tug! It is very sturdy and easy to use. All the attachments fit on easily and do their job well. It does not make too much noise either. Our rabbit is quite a timid chap and yet he has had a good many fights with the dyson when I've tried to hoover his room (yes! The spoilt bunny does have his own room in the house! Well, it's not like we really needed a dining room!) It is simply to empty. The whole of the front comes away from the back and base of the dyson, which incidentally stays standing well and does not topple over when you are doing this. I then take the whole dust compartment out to the bin, unclip the top from the bottom and tip it out straight into the dustbin. Even when I have emptied it inside, I have never spilt the contents on the floor or had to hoover up any bits that have dropped out. With our old model, some strong had caught around the front and stopped the suction entirely. It was very easy to unscrew the front, take the pieces apart and clean it out. Also simple to put back together again! The after sales service from dyson is outstanding. Even when ours was not under warrantee (as I said, it lived 8 happy years with us) we phoned up about a fan belt and they posted a new one out to us at no charge! What more could you ask for? The only slight negative is that is tends to be quite heavy to move around, especially if you want to carry it upstairs. Expect to pay between £150 and £250 for this model. I would recommend any model of dyson. All those that I have used have been excellent.
I bought my Dyson in the sales earlier in the year. Before that i had one bought from a car boot for £5 so anything was an improvement! I have two Long haired cats who seem to shed fur everywhere, everyday, I also have three flights of stairs in my house that are all carpet. This Cleaner is light enough to cart up and down the stairs-although it is a bit bulky-and its easy to hoover the stairs with this as the hose reaches to the top of the staircase. My carpet looked a totally different colour when i had finished using it the first time around. It picks up the cat hairs with ease and with the attachments that come with it, all nooks and crannys are easy to clean. Generally this is a good vaccuum cleaner, i don't see the need to get allergy ones or animal ones as the filters are pretty much all the same! As an allergy sufferer i can say this picked up enough for my symptoms to almost disappear when at home. Worth the money, also comes with a good guarantee (well mine did!) It's a doddle to empty with the press of a button and everything falls out of the cylinder, then it clicks back into place so you can start all over again. Hoovering isn't such a chore now.
What a powerful vacuum cleaner. This is brilliant I use this at my sisters and she has managery of animals: Cats, rats, gerbils, geko, snakes, dragons... Which all make a lot of mess. Wow this get's rid of it each time and is so powerful with it's motorized head. It get right in to the corners and has a great telescopic reach to it which is perfect for her huge staircase it reaches right to the top! The down size is the weight of it, I'm use to it now...built up my muscles but at first was very heavy compared to my tiny dyson I have. Definate not for someone who is unable to lift heavy things like this. So easy to empty with the touch of a button and clicks back in to place no problem. This is a great cleaner I recommend dyson and would always buy another one I've had my small one 8 years and still works perfectly well. Worth the money :)
