Advantages: Ease of use, Performance
Disadvantages: Reliability, Price, Attatchments
We bought the DC15 after our DC04 fell down the stairs and smashed into the front door. In the time we owned the DC04 we had more than our fair share of problems, it had new brush rolls, new sole plates, new hoses, a new cable, new belts and a new motor.
For about a week we tryed to struggle along with a Numatic Henry hoover but it became very hard work as we own a very hairy dog and rather expensive carpets.
After a trip round all the usuall electrical retailers we decided to buy a Dyson DC08 Animal telescope wrap with special tools designed for dog hair, But when used it only picked up about 10% of what was actually on the carpet. So back to Comet we went.
We decided that we still wanted a Dyson machine as when they want to work they are quite effective machines. So we decided to buy the top of the range DC15 The ball. It was on special offer at £250 (usuall price £350) so we got a bargain.
When we got it home it was fairly easy to assemble but the release button on the back of the machine was a little tricky to get the knack of.
It works like a dream picking up everything from dog hair and the odd bits of cotton to ground in mud and grit, It really was amazing to see how much dirt we got out of the carpets given they had been cleaned with a Dyson only a week before. The hose is fairly easy to use but doesnt quite reach the top stair and the performance of the tools is quite poor!
The instruction manual is rather plain and I could imagine somebody having dificulty using this machine if they have no past experience of Dyson's.
I cant really comment on the reliability of this machine as we have only owned it a week, My only real concern is that the brushroll is driven by a seperate motor so there is double the chance of something going wrong, But we took out an extra year on the warrnty for £20 so for the next 3 years we dont have to worry about any repair costs and Dyson are usually very fast when it comes to repairing a broken down machine.
It also handles very well thanks to 'the ball' its easy to use in tight spaces, its all most like having a vacuum cleaner with power steering! However it may not be suited to people who abuse their vacuum cleaner by bashing them about and not washing the filters when they are supposed to as Dysons are not the most solid machines on the market. But as long as you look after it and keep it clean its a very efficient machine that should last years!
****update**** After this review was written the bloody thing decided to break! I was vacuuming the stairs and the hose split in about 5 different places so I took it back and got a refund as it was still under 28 days old. It was a very efficient vacuum cleaner in the time we owned it but the tools were quite poor and it seems to be as fragile and has as poor quality parts as most previouse Dyson models. I've rated this machine as "good" because although the tools were very poor in normal vacuum mode this was a very effective machine! Wouldnt really reccomend Dyson, They tend to be very effective yet unreliable machines. For the money you pay for a Dyson you could buy a equally effective commercial machine that will last 10+ years with no problems.
Summary: Okay vacuum cleaner, Not worth the money.
