I've had my hand held dyson for well over a year now, I was so excited when I it, and am very pleased that I did. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and this handheld is very good for a quick vaccuming of animal hairs, as I have laminated floors and tiles throughout my house, and the hairs from the animals tend to gather around the skirting boards very quickly even after vaccuming properly using a standard hoover. Throughout the day I can keep on top of the pet hair problems using the handheld dyson, it is excellent at getting hairs off your sofas, bed, etc. It is Lightweight, and I am not a very strong person in the physical sense, as I am what they call petite in nature and I have no problems with handling this Dyson for any length of time, its not that pretty to look at, but I was more interested in its functionality. I use it for getting up bread crumbs after cutting fresh bread, quick hoovering of the car seats etc, the only down side i have found to it is that the charge doesn't really last long enough for me personally, to combat this I have a rubber brush that i sweep all the pet hairs up into one big pile and then get the hand held out. It is not noisy, it is easy to empty and clean. I am more than pleased with this product and would reccommend it.
I've had this product for about a month at the time of writing and I am quite impressed by the build quality. Although this is sometime I expect from Dyson.
The unit itself is not that heavy and is good for hard to reach places. It is not very noisy, in fact is definitely quieter than other stand up hoovers.
I like the attachments that are provided, you have a long thin one, one with bristles, and another small tube one (haven't yet found out what this is useful for). They are the same as you would get with any other dyson but smaller to fit the unit.
The design is very good and I like that you have to hold the trigger to make it work, which is well designed to where you should hold it.
For a portable hoover is perfect for cleaning the car and any small messes about the house. I have found that the size of the bin on it seems a little too small, while cleaning the car I had to empty it twice, and its not a very big car.
One thing I have noticed is that battery life is not a good as i would have expected, it need to be one charge all the time if you don't want to be caught out by lack of power.
The unit for charging is a good size and when charging is discrete enough, if a little chunky. I live in a small flat, and it doesn't take up too much room which is why we bought it.
Personally I think this is about right for something to clean up little messes but if you plan to get one for the smaller size and use it in a similar way as a normal hoover you'll find it really is not big enough.
I purchased my Dyson handheld nearly 4 months ago and, as someone who is 'less than enthusiastic' about cleaning, this is one product that really has changed my cleaning attitude! So much easier that lugging out the big Dyson, can reach into all sorts of places (down the side of the fridge etc), excellent suction, and the extra nozzles are useful for furniture, mattresses etc. Perfect for quickly picking up crumbs when my toddler is eating biscuits/toast and dropping crumbs, and also ideal for quickly nipping round the edge of the hallway. The main benefit of this Dyson though is that vacuuming the stairs no longer breaks my back and can be done quickly. Slight downside is that it conks out after 6 moniutes and then eneds charging, but 6 mins is generally long enough to do what you need to - I use it first thing and last thing and charge in between. Pricey, yes, but worth every penny to me.
When my mum appeared with her latest gadget in tow wanting to hoover just about everything in sight, I was sceptical. Why on earth had she spent in excess of £100 for a smaller version of something that does the job required? I have to say, I was wrong.
The product takes approximately two hours to fully charge after an initial battery conditioning (similar to when you get a new phone and overcharge the battery for 12 hours or similar). I would estimate that the running time if left on constantly would be just shy of four *minutes*, which means you can do a lot of little bits of hoovering before it'll run out.
It does make quite a lot noise but I suppose that is the price to pay for something so powerful and is not something I mind. Hoovering is rarely quiet and I suppose this is no exception. If you don't want to wake a sleeping baby though, I wouldn't advise using this product!
The product is very sturdy and of good quality, as if frequently the case with dyson products. I have had no problems with breakages with this particular item but in my experience dyson have also fixed items or even reconditioned items that are no longer available in record time.
It's super easy to empty at more of less of a touch of a button, and all of the controls and extra fittings are easy to locate and use. The charger supplied could be a bit better for the money, for instance, I would prefer a large docking station for it, rather than something that resembles a mobile telephone charger.
One point that I will make is that in comparison to other hoovers this size, it is definitely heavier. I find it quite a strain to use with just one hand, as my wrist strength seems to have let me down! I wouldn't say I was especially weak so this may be a problem many people have.
In conclusion, I would say this is great if you are looking for something with a lot of power. The battery life isn't spectacular, although it wouldn't be that normal to spend four hours on the go with this bad boy, because your wrists would give way! It is worth the money, but only if you can stand the way it looks.
Fed up with getting out my bulk upright hoover for just a little split sugar, dusty corner, dirt, childrens beads well anything. All the unwinding of the cable disconecting the hose putting on the nossel. So i thought i would push the boat out and spend that little extre on this brilant yellow and grey gem..... well the Dyson DC16 arrived and after a short charge had its first test run with cornflakes that my son split. The suction was so strong that the cornflakes were gone in a matter of a couple secounds. i have since used it every where including to clear cob webs, cleaning out the car and even taken it away on holiday to get sand and grit cleared away easliy. The Dyson DC16 came with a couple of attachment a nossle which i use the most and anothere with a bruch on the end as shown in the picture here which works well on curtains. I would and have recomended the Dyson DC16 to all my friends.
This appliance is possibly the best investment I have ever made! I was initially against buying one, as I couldn't see the point when I already had a 'big' dyson, however I eventually gave in when my husband found good 'seconds' deal though Dyson on eBay.
I'm so glad I did! I've owned other handheld vaccum cleaners in the past, but none compares to this one. It is just so handy - it comes with a charger which can be fixed to the wall, and if one of my children (or my husband!) makes a mess it is so much easier to pick up than the larger verison. It is quite heavy compared to other handhelds, but I haven't found this to be a problem. It's suction capability is excellent being a Dyson, and in fact it's only drawback is how noisy it is.
It has become one of the most often-used items in my house, and I cannot reccomend one highly enough.
I was very much against buying a cheap portable vacuum for cleaning my car, they never have enough suction, so I splashed the cash on this little Dyson.
The DC16 Root 6 looks great, very nice styling and not too heavy. The battery slots into the base and this in turn slides into the supplied charger. The charger can be wall mounted (in a garage perhaps). Once charged the DC16 really has a lot of power, and gets all of the dirt and gravel of my cars carpets really easily. A small vacuum will never match a full size one, but this does get to some of the deeper dirt too, proving just how powerful it is.
You get the brush attachment and also a smaller crevice tool, so getting in between seats is easy.
The one thing that lets this down is the battery. From a full charge you only get about six minutes use. Good enough for a car, but I was expecting more for my money. The other thing that I am not too happy with is the battery does not retain its charge. So if you leave it fully charged and do not use it for a week, then you want to pick up some dirt, you often get about 30 seconds before the battery gives up. The only way around this is to keep it charging all the time, so it is juiced up and ready to go.
Well I've owned this product for 24 hours now and so far I'm quite impressed. I bought the DC16 animal instead of the standard one as we have dogs and the turbo brush tool will come in very handy. The normal model sells for around £100 and the animal version costs £130. Either way both models look like some sort of gun from a starwars film.
Upon getting it out of the box it was pretty easy to assemble, just slide the battery into the main body and put it on charge. It takes 3 hours to fully charge and will run for 6 minutes. After the first charge I vacuumed all the dog hairs off the bed with it and then gave the stairs a quick clean. The turbo brush coped very well with the dog hair and there was ample suction. I got at least my 6 minutes run time and this was more than long enough to do what I wanted. When finished I just popped it back into its charging dock. When charged again I proceeded to vacuum my mums car with it. It coped really well and if it can handle that then it can handle anything. Her car rarely gets cleaned and it pulled the ground in dirt out of the carpet mats with ease.
I used all the tools; the turbo brush on the seats, the crevice tool for the narrow spaces and the dusting brush for the air vents and other bits and bobs. The dirt container was full of all sorts of filth afterwards and the suction was still 100% as is with full sized Dysons. The filters seem to be staying clean too and the manual recommends washing them every 3 - 6 months.
The main reason I bought this device was for the car. My car is my pride and joy and I like to keep it looking like its just rolled off the forecourt. VW always comment when it goes in for its service how well it's looked after. So this device will save me having to drag the main vacuum out onto the driveway and mess about with extension cables.
I tried buying a cheaper Black & Decker hand held vac but to be honest it was cr*p. It hardly picked anything up and what it did pick up just blew back out the sides.
The Dyson works well, has decent suction and good filters so in my eyes it's something worth having if you often do small jobs such as clean the car, something a 6 minute run time will be ample enough for. Obviously the 6 minute run time is if the machine is being used constantly without a break. You can stop and start it as much as you want and still get a total of 6 minutes use.
Its lightweight, well balanced, has decent suction power and good tools for what it's designed to do.
It's covered by a 2 years parts and labour warranty. For some reason Dyson do not cover their hand held machines with the 5 years warranty full sized machines come with.
I'm not sure what else there is to say about it really. It does exactly what the box says it will. Run for 6 minutes, take 3 hours to fully charge, pick up well and not loose suction. I'm pleased with my purchase and look forward to it making lighter work of smaller cleaning tasks in the future.
