I moved into my own place 6 years ago and needed a vacuum cleaner, from that point I used Vax or Hoover however these I found didn't last very long, then 2 years ago the 3rd Vax gave way so I decided to "splash out" and get a Dyson. Id heard good things about them, expensive but worth it.
The Dyson range is quite extensive and there is a vacuum to suit all budgets. I only live in a smallish flat with limited storage so I opted for the DC19DB which was a small cylinder vacuum and similar to ones I have used in the past. I got this from Argos priced £239.99 however they were doing a special offer where you got a £50 gift card with any Dyson range which I thought was a great offer. Looking on the Argos web page today this vacuum is still available at £189.99 which is still a very good price to pay. This is the best price I've found as it currently on Amazon for £255 and Debenhams for £279 so if you are buying this Argos is the place as of 23/10/2013
A Dyson has great features, this one includes the following -
*Multi cyclonic technology.
*250 air watts.
*Length of hose 3.5m.
*Hose stretches up to 5m.
*Dust capacity 2 litres.
*Dustbag full indicator.
*Foot operated cord rewind.
*Includes combination tool/brush/stair stool.
*Plastic extension tubes.
*Suitable for all floor types.
*6.5m power cord.
*Size H44, W30, D36cm.
Upon looking at that it can just look like words however as a user I have come to appreciate all of these features. The suction on the vacuum which is using the multi cyclonic technology is the best I've known. I have laminate floors and when I turn it on to use it almost feels like it could suck the panels out! I don't use it much, maybe once or twice a week but its still as strong as it was first time I used it. The line "no loss of suction" is most definitely true! The weight and size of it is also a good thing, its not heavy or chunky, it fits into the cupboard great without taking up to much room and to lift about it is light enough for any size. The use of the hose is easy enough, it detaches easily enough and reaches up to the ceiling with hardly no effort or loss of suction.
I hate vacuuming! Even on laminate floors in a small flat it feels like a massive chore but when I got the Dyson I was so excited I couldn't wait to use it! As much as I dislike vacuuming the Dyson really does make it much easier. As it is lightweight it does move round easier, this particular model doesn't come with the new ball like technology which they are currently advertising but it still moves round the flat at ease, occasionally it gets trapped behind the sofa but its not to much of an issue. Vacuuming different types of flooring is also not an issue, I have some rugs in the flat and one of these is quite thick and flurry, the Dyson vacuums this really well, one thing to be careful of is that the suction is so strong that on smaller lighter rugs it might lift them off the floor so you might need to stand on it as you vacuum it. As the suction is so strong you wont need to constantly go over areas, an issue I had with previous vacuums so it does take a lot less time to complete the task. I've only ever used the main head when vacuuming although it does come with other attachments should you require them.
This is incredibly easy and on previous vacuums a real issue for me to do but the Dyson does make it so much simpler to do. There is a button which clicks the container off the main unit, from this the lid opens easily and the contents empty into big bag with hardly no mess. To get the container back on it simply slots back into place and clicks once in the correct position. The once dreaded task is now much simpler and easier to complete. I empty mine probably once a month depending on how often I use it but there is a "full" marker on the container to help you determine when it needs emptying, this is very handy as I never know when it needs emptying otherwise!
I have had this Dyson now for 2 years and its still as good as when I got it. I don't vacuum as much as some people do, its once a week, twice if it needs it so I wouldn't say it was a high use item but its still done me well for 2 years and shows no sign of giving up on me yet. As mentioned previously I owned Vax and Hoover, both big names in the vacuum world and price wise these are much cheaper than Dyson however I found that these only tend to last about a year before overheating and stop working so although they are cheaper to me its false economy to keep buying vacuums. In the 6 years I've lived at my flat I probably spent £300 on vacuums before buying the Dyson, if I had purchased one in the first place at £300 it would most probably still be in use today. The manufacturer gives a 5 year guarantee but I've had family and friends who have had theirs a lot longer so its worth the investment. If you are on the look out for a new vacuum this is most definitely one to buy.
