Elegant design, and power make it a worthwhile product

I love this little vacume cleaner. I had purchased my first Dyson about 7 years ago. Unfortunately it eventually broke down. I was being cheep and so bought a lesser quality product for £65 which worked pretty good until about the 5th time I tried to use it. After weeks of defeat I chose to save up and buy a brand new Dyson. I purchased this because of the 'wood and wool' description and I must say, it's it is truly wonderful! The power is unmatched and it's look is stylish. I normally don't like cleaning, but I really enjoy using it and it makes quick work of my cleaning. With the cheap lesser quality product I was always spending time going back and forth over the same spot and often I had to pick it up to literally thrust it up the tube! My new Dyson does it all first time. It stores away well as it folds up really small.

If you spend your money wisely the first time, you'll find you are much happier. I wish I didn't purchase the old lesser quality product and stuck with the Dyson, but I'm glad I have it now!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      An investment

      THE BASICS:

The Dyson DC22 Wood and Wool is 1/3 smaller than standard Dyson cleaners (as well as the constituent parts being detachable to allow storage in a much shorter space than upright equivalents) and comes complete with a range of accessories. It is the middle sized option in terms of Dyson Cylinder vacuums but has no loss of power over the larger or upright models: the DC26 offers a smaller solution and the DC 32 a larger in the cylinder range.

The dual mode floor tool acts as your standard vacuum head and is suitable for wooden floors, laminates, tiles and carpets - all of which we have in our house; the ability to hoover tiles and wooden floors is a particular bonus as it avoid back-breaking brushing). Also included in the package is a stair tool, a multi-functional tool that you might use for harder to reach crevices and high reach cleaning and an upholstery tool. Available for in the region of £185 it is competitively priced along the same lines as other Dyson vacuums.

      THE LOOK:

The bin proper comprises of clear plastic casing, allowing you to see the fruits of your labour (and tell when it needs emptying), inside which is the yellow cylinder. All of this pivots on grey wheels. The tubing down which the dust flows is flexible and a complementary grey, leading to an (also grey) rigid extendable tube of plastic onto which you fit the various accessories. The overall look is one that respects ergonomics. Buttons to retract the plug (my husbands favourite part of the hoovering apparently!) in grey and a red button to turn the hoover on and off sit either side of the rigid tubing on the main cylinder/bin unit. Wiring is grey, so as not to jar with the overall look.

Unfortunately the clear bin casing can become quite badly scratched after prolonged use or when vacuuming up certain deposits (e.g. brick dust resulting from drilling) which does somewhat spoil the appearance of the product. Fortunately you're unlikely to have it on display when visitors come round, so this isn't really too much of an issue (more of a minor niggle).

      FUNCTIONALITY:

Using Dyson's patented root cyclone technology this vacuum efficiently vacuums surfaces without needing to go over it again and again, as our beloved Henry required. You can see its effectiveness.... the bin fills up relatively quickly (a minor con and something you have to beware of - the 'emptying' level shown, not very clearly, on the plastic casing is somewhat lower than you might expect - go over it and you'll get a significant loss of power). It's also approved for use reducing the impact of allergies, since it also vacuums up microscopic particles.

An added bonus is the five year parts and labour guarantee, which in addition to the lack of need for bags and replacement filters means that despite the relatively expensive initial outlay, subsequent costs are limited to the power required for hoovering.

The only issue I have is that it is quite heavy (in the region of 10kg) meaning the heavily pregnant me struggles to carry it up the stairs. Even some of the upright dyson models beat this weight.
