Advantages: smart looking, and outstanding cleaning
Disadvantages: heavy and a little awkward
My wife never fails to make me laugh. She is so quirky that sometimes I wonder what is going on in her head. You would imagine that someone in the prime of her life would want something fun and interesting as a birthday present, but no. My wife decided that she would much rather have a Dyson vacuum cleaner! To be honest this machine cost much more than I would normally pay for a vacuum cleaner and a little on the pricey side for my wifes birthday present. I am normally of the mind that if you can buy a cheap little cleaner for £20 out of a supermarket then why would you choose to pay much more for something that does much the same job.
But I have to be honest, with this you really do get what you pay for, I mean really, the difference between a 'value' clener and this Dyson is breath taking.
When I brought the Dyson home, my wife had not long finished the vacuuming, but she wanted to test it out so she cleaned the carpet again. it looked clean before she took the Dyson over it, but you would not believe what that machine managed to suck out of our carpet - if anyone would have seen I would have been well embarressed.
I have heard some people complain that Dysons break down alot. Being entirely honest I can say that in the 6 months we have had ours it has not had any issues at all. It has operated perfectly each and every time that we use it. Are we just lucky that our machine works? Maybe... I can only write from our own experience.
In terms of usage there are a couple of niggles that I have found. The first is that this machine is heavy. This is not an issue if you are just vacuuming around the house, but if you come to clean the stair carpet or even just carry the thing up the stairs, you will very quickly realise how heavy this thing gets.
The other really annoying thing is the nozzle. I find this a real pain to try and use, to the extent now that I pretty much ignore it as a feature. It is awkward to set up and cumbersome to use.
All that being said, it is an excellent device, and one which I am very happy to own.
Being a guy, and Scottish, I would never have thought to buy a vacuum in this price range had it not been for my wife. And as much as I think this device is fantastic, there is no way I would pay that much again for one. As far as I am concerned, great as it may be, its about £180 more than I would be happy paying. Should the worst happen and my Dyson break down, I am afraid it will be back to the old 'value' machines for me - after all, its only a carpet.
Summary: a fantastic device, but way more than I would pay if left to my own devices.

- 03/05/09 Welcome to Dooyoo.
A good start here. If I was in the market for one Id like to know a bit more info such as:
Emptying - easy to do or hard?
Noise - is it noisy? Can't hear someone talking to you whilst in use?
Filtration qualities?
Does the hose reach up stairs effectively without having to carry the vac up stairs?
UK price - how much did you pay?
There are three tools on this vacuum, so what is the Nozzle you speak of?
Long power cord?
Adding info isnt compulsory but it would give future buyers a clearer picture of what this vacuum offers from your experience. If you update your review please message me.
And me being Scottish too doesn't prevent me from buying expensive stuff; clearly the cheap vac you bought has proved not to be as effective as your new Dyson.
