Advantages: does everything it claims to do.
Disadvantages: Dreadful Colour!
My trusty 9 year old purple & green Dyson sadly died last month despite receiving the best of care over the years. A 5 year guarantee ensured private treatment during those years and, as I renewed the guarantee for another couple of years, replacement parts were only a phone call away. It was the best and received the best care it could possibly have but eventually, its arteries were clogged and its heart was failing and we had to send it to the big vacuum fields in the sky.
What a dilemma; what should we buy as a replacement? So many on the market all promising the best cleaning ever but we couldn't road test them all. I checked out the Dyson site and was taken aback but the price of a top notch machine £299.00. Wow, that's an awful lot of money for anyone let alone a couple of pensioners so I enlisted the help of Google and went searching. Can you believe it - I found the same model (DC25) at Amazon for £225.75 and FREE Delivery. That clinched it - never one to pass up a bargain & knowing in my heart of hearts that only a Dyson could replace old faithful I bought it.
When it arrived we both held up our hands in horror - D C stands for : Dreadful Colour. brassy gold and orange - with red bits here & there. Yuck. This is the "all floors" model as opposed to the "animal" model which is a pretty shade of purple.
No longer the owner of hairy golden retrievers but with carpets, tiles and wooden floors there was no sensible contest ( apart from colour preference!).
The Road Test:
Well. My Daily will tell you that he has given the machine a thorough testing ( whilst wearing shades) and he is very, very impressed. Firstly & most importantly, the ball. Much larger than we expected and looking just like a small football perched on the front of the machine. Switch on, not too noisy & away we go. Gliding is the only way to describe it, in & out of the chairs & tables - totally effortless and nothing like as heavy as the old machine. Running along the skirting board it picks up right to edge - no need to get the tools out - easy peasy.
The carpet looked as if it had been steam cleaned so over to the kitchen floor - ceramic tiles. Flick the switch to turn off the beater bar and again, an easy gliding motion with exceptional suction power. Wooden floor was exactly the same and a nice clean house was the result.
As with previous Dysons, the tools are all on board so although it goes under most of our furniture it is just as easy to to reach more difficult areas by releasing the Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand.
You can see when the bin needs to be emptied and it is a simple process. In fact, it is very female friendly but my Daily would probably divorce me if I interfered - Boys toys etc!
I am just waiting now for him to go out so that I can get my hands on it but I don't want the job - just want to play with it for a bit. It really looks the biz.

- 13/05/09 Hi,
as you might have guessed this is my husband's latest toy so I let him play! Regarding your questions - yes very easy to empty & clean and the beater bar can be turned off.
I have lifted it and it is much lighter than the old model. it also goes under most of our furniture but, where it doesn't it is easy to whip out the wand and use that.
I will add this info to my review.
