Oh my goodness how glad am I to have such a decent vacuum cleaner?! My little girl and husband between them manage to make so much mess that I find myself using this Dyson at least once a day and it's great because it works really well!
Before having a Dyson I had an 'old fashioned' hoover with a bag and it was heavy, cumbersome and not very efficient so when I bought my first Dyson I was really impressed! Two years ago I bought this Dyson Animal and it hasn't let me down, again it has impressed me!
Firstly it actually looks quite nice! purple and silver and rather sleek... being abel to see the rubbish inside is not very nice however but apart from that it is fine to look at! It is not very bulky so when you are storing it it doesn't take up too much room but also when using it it isn't hard to pusha round and negotiate the floor with.
I use this on either wooden floors or carpet and it is just as efficient on both types of flooring.
The cable is nice and long it will stretch almost the full length of my downstairs which is great, nothing more annoying than having to keep unplugging it and replugging elsewhere!
It is extremely efficient. It has a very strong suction. It has managed to suck up all kinds of things that it shouldn't and that just proves how strong it is- we have had socks, pencils, hair bands, bottle caps manage to get hoovered up and the good thing is that because the cylinder is see through its'' easy to see if you have sucked up something by mistake and easy to fish it back out!
The tools are very easy to use, efficient and easy to replace. I find that the tool reaches high enough to get cobwebs out of corners of ceilings and so very well designed.
It is easy to clean out too. Around the filter at the foot of the hoover things like hair and dust gather easily so about once a month I take it apart and pull all these bits out and it's easy to do, I am not practical at all! But I can do this! And emptying it is easy too, you can see when it's getting full and all you do is press a button and clip out the cylindar, empty it and then put it back on again! Very simple!
It is quite heavy but not compared to other machines so it's very good for when you need to carry it upstairs. Pushing it around is easy, it moves really well across teh carpet and isn't too cumbersome. When I have used other brands since having this it's made me realise just how easy and efficient this machine is.
I spent £300 on it and I don't think I could go back to a different model at all. It works really well. It is very efficient and easy to use. Definitely worth every penny.
My Mom has her own cleaning company and I have been going on jobs with her for a minimum of 2 hours per week for about 7 years. Therefore, I have been able to test a variety of different vacuum cleaners and can make experienced comparisons between many different models. Out of all of the different models I have used, both Dyson and non-Dyson, this vacuum cleaner is one or the best and also one of the latest.
We bought this vacuum cleaner for our own personal use at home as the other vacuum cleaner we had was mainly used for work and therefore, when used at home the smells associated with those places tended to be wafted around the house. We now have a separate house vacuum cleaner and work vacuum cleaner.
We definitely saved the best vacuum cleaner for ourselves.
The build quality on Dyson vacuum cleaners is always excellent, but these seems even better than usual. It is so sturdy and has many small but handy features which makes using it so much easier. For example, to use the built-in hose, on many models you would have to press in a button to lift up the metal rod high into the air, then press the button again to release the entire hose - on this model you simply lift the rod and the entire hose comes along with it by automatically undoing a clasp and then redoing it for you as you pack it away. It comes with many other unique features like this which sets it apart from other models and other brands.
The performance is great, as it is the animal version of the model it is superb at picking up pet hair. Now we only have a cat, but it was amazing when we first used the vacuum cleaner around the house and found out just how much our old Dyson wasn't picking up from the carpet, most of it being cat hair. Even though we onyl vacuum cleaned a couple of days ago with the old one, vacuuming with the new one meant that we had to empty the collection tank twice to complete the clean!
Cleaning out all of the modern Dyson cleaners is quick and easy as the bagless container detached at the press of a button and empties by opening the base over a bin with a second press. There are also filters which have to be cleaned out every 6 months but have a lifetime guarantee on them so you will never have to buy a replacement!
The vacuum is very easy to maneuver despite not having Dyson's famous ball technology. We purposefully bought a non-ball vacuum cleaner as we do not see much point in the ball, it doesn't seem to make it any easier or harder to move a vacuum cleaner with one or without one in our opinions.
Overall, one of the best I have ever used!
I have been using Dyson vacuum cleaners for many years and I don't think I could be persuaded to change to another brand.
They are by far the most powerful and effective cleaners I have tried, so when we decided to make life easier and buy another vac so we could keep one upstairs, Dyson was the obvious choice.
As we have two dogs we chose the Dyson DC27 Animal as it designed for improved pet hair pick up and this particular model had money off as it was ex-display.
This came boxed and the vacuum was in two pieces, plus the accessories
You also get a user manual, a quick start guide and details of the 5 year product guarantee and a card to register this.
I have only used the Quick Start guide which is very clear and easy to follow in a series of diagrams. The pictures are large and the steps are numbered. The diagram is very clear and everything you need to know is shown here. I find I only ever refer to this when I clean the filters.
This particular model is primarily grey, with flashes of red on the end of the telescopic wand, the on off switch and the button you press to release the bin for emptying. The top of the bin is a brushed gold colour.
This is really easy as there is a very large diagram that shows how to connect the two pieces together and they simply click into place.
What I find about Dysons is that normally everything clicks into place really easily and if you take it apart to clean the filters or empty the bin, it comes apart with no problems and putting it back together is a doddle. You hear a satisfying click when you have positioned and inserted things correctly.
There is one exception to that with this model and that is the Quick draw telescopic wand you use with the tools. More about that later.
This is an upright model that is bagless, all the dust and dirt is collected in a clear cylinder bin which you simply empty when it becomes full.
It has cyclone technology which means as you are vacuuming all the dirt and hairs spin around the cylinder and it is this technology that means there is no loss of suction or clogging.
What I find is that this does not work as effectively if the plastic bin that collects all the debris is too full and you can tell, because all the dirt stops spinning. I empty mine as soon as I spot this.
Emptying is so simple, simply press the red button at the top of the bin to release, and lift off with the handle .To empty hold over a waste bin or bag and press the same red button and the bottom of the bin opens fully and all the dirt is released. The bin simply clicks back into place. This is really easy and you will never get your hands dirty. It takes less than a minute to do this.
What you will find is that there are arrows and small diagrams on the actual vacuum to show you how to empty the bin and release the accessory wand which are really useful when you are familiarising yourself with how everything works.
Everything you have to press or pull to release in a Dyson is a different colour to the main vacuum so it is easy to spot what you have to do.
To use simply press the red on off switch positioned at the front of the vacuum and put you foot in the groove at the front and pull the vacuum handle towards you and off you go.
This model is quite heavy and noisy, but boy does it suck up hairs and dirt. I have 2 dogs, one that moults continuously and loves to wriggle on her back across every surface, so her hair is spread far and wide in our house. You only have to look at her and one wag of the tail releases another batch of hair. So I need something than can cope with pet hair and the additional dirt that comes hand in hand with dog ownership.
I use this primarily on carpet and it very quickly sucks up anything in its path but it isn't the easiest to manoeuvre and I personally find it quite heavy and when I do replace will probably go for a Dyson ball or look at a lighter model.
It doesn't have any side brishes so doesn't pick up at the edge of carpets well, but I use the attachments to do that.
I do use this on hard floors but find that it does blow the dirt around, so follow up using the accessory tools to pick up as well. The vacuum adjusts itself to whatever floor type, but I find it more effective on carpets.
The only thing I am not too keen on with this model is how you release the wand so you can use this as a hand held with the tools/accessories to get into all the nooks and crannies and clean upholstery and stairs.
This is supposedly a quick draw release in that you lift the red wand upwards and the hose is meant to seamlessly detach itself so you can use this as a handheld and vac skirting boards and the like.
It doesn't quite work like that for me and I have to pull rather more than I would like, but I think at some point someone who shall remain nameless has used this and perhaps because of unfamiliarity with this cleaning device has forced the wand back in slightly the wrong position, as this did work perfectly well before.
That being said, I think I prefer the release mechanism on my old Dyson which seemed easier to me.
Another great feature of Dysons is that you don't lose any suction when you use this with the tools. In fact be careful as I often unintentionally find this attached to curtains and socks, which is why I am a dab hand at taking this apart to retrieve socks in particular. This particular model has suction power of 255, compared to say the DC24 Animal which has 100 suction powers. So this is one of the most powerful in the Dyson range.
This model comes with tools that include one for upholstery and stairs and one that you use for getting into nooks and crannies, this one converts to a brush you can use to dust , you simply slide down the brush part when needed. In addition you get a mini turbine which is a small attachment that you can use for stairs that spins around and in theory this will make cleaning your stair carpets easier.
The tools click into the wand easily and to release you press a button. I like that they fit together easily and are stored on the vacuum, as I use them all the time to get into corners and use the brush for high dusting.
I don't find the turbine attachment very effective and it is quite weighty and I find it quite awkward to manoeuvre on the stairs, so I don't use this very often. this is an added extra with this model.
I use the other tools all the time, they are stored on the vacuum securely and neatly , simply detach when you need them and like everything on a Dyson they click back into place easily once you have finished with them.
The wand at 14.64 metres reach is long enough to reach from top to bottom of a standard staircase, but when you do get to the top, I feel it becomes harder to manoeuvre as the hose is at full stretch, but it is safer as no balancing the vac on the stair steps, and no need to carry upstairs to do the top steps. So in theory it does reach, but expect some resistance when you have it at full stretch.
This also has a long lead at 9.3 metres and the bin capacity is 2.3litres, but I empty frequently as I find it performs better. I like the fact that the bin is clear and you can see when it is full.
This weighs 8.3kg and it is heavy, so I would not recommend this to everyone. I have pain in my arms, which makes things I used to do easily more difficult now, so I will be getting a lighter model.
I would say this isn't suitable for elderly infirm as my mother really struggled to use this.
Would I recommend?
I wasn't sure when we paid the extra for the Animal, that we would be getting something that performs better than the normal Dyson, but as I have another non Animal Dyson, I can compare and this does pick up more effectively than the other one, so I would recommend on that basis.
They are expensive, but they are sturdy and last for ages. Mine take quite a battering as one of the dogs moults excessively all year round, so I need something that works quickly and effectively and this fits the bill.
Some reservations about the Quick draw wand and the weight, but I think that is an issue for me because I have developed problems in my arms and suffer pain when I lift or do lots of cleaning.
You probably don't need this if you don't have pets, a Dyson in the normal range will be more than adequate. Mine is 6 years old now and is still going strong sadly too strong for me now. So I would recommend seeing how you get on with this and try it in the store before you buy.
I did once buy another brand when our Dyson bit the dust as it was used to clean up some heavyweight building debris. So I thought I would save money and bought one at under £100, I realised my mistake as it performed at about the same level as the Dyson I was replacing which had lost its suction power. Luckily I was able to return and swap for a Dyson, so I do think they are worth the extra money as they are so much more powerful and ultimately do the job and save me time.
Price and Availability
This is £329.99 from Dyson but Argos sells this at £319.99 and currently has taken £60 off.
Shop around as there are always deals to be had.
A 5 star performer, but 1 star deducted because it is really heavy.
When i first moved out of my parents house i had no idea how to chose a vacuum but had two dogs and a cat so the Dyson dc27 animal seemed like a no brainer. Boths of my dogs are very long haired and this wasn't a problem. We had both carpets and hardwood floor and although the vacuum has a setting for wood floor it seemed to just push the bits around but if a used the carpet setting on the wood floor it worked fine. it is quite a heavy vacuum but easy to manuvre. Its 18 month old now and has developed a slight squeak but still does a good a job as it ever did. I can vacuum the stairs without having to move it cause the pipe does stretch. The handle has now started sticking when i try to remove it and takes a bit of effort. But all in all its a great hoover to use to remove the pet hair and the childs mess and the fact that i have now got an attatchment that i can brush the dog with makes it even better.
I have always sworn by a Dyson vacuum cleaner (perhaps its the fascination with seeing the dirt coming out of your carpets and up into the cylinder) and having two dogs I couldn't wait to buy the animal version. I was already convinced of the Dyson quality and appreciated the need to buy no hoover bags in the future so the decision was a "no-brainer".
Delivery was quick and the packaged arrived safely and on time. On first use, hwoever, I was a tad concerned - there seemed to be a high pitch whine which, to this day, has never gone away. However, I reasoned, the most importnat point was does it do its job properly - does it clean up after the animals? The answer is a resounding YES.
One of my dogs is a retreiver who drops blonde hairs everywhere. As I look down along the hall carpet I can usually see a layer of blonde hairs which the Dyson makes short work of. I have a cleaner who insisted that I buy a Hetty as she couldn't get to grips with an upright - yet this does not remove much of the animal hair. The Dyson animal cleaner puts the other competition to shame.
Just like other Dysons, this cleaner is an upright cleaner whose handle quickly extends to reach those awkward spots.
An added bonus is the quality of aftercare that you recieve from Dyson. When I lost one of the attachments that most cleaners come with then a replacement was quickly sent through for a small payment. When I stepped back on the long handle / pipe and snapped it - again a replacement part was sent out the next day.
If I ever need to replace this hoover - it will certainly be another Dyson!
Well, what can I say... I have been using a cylinder cleaner for many years. Thinking that this was the best for up and down stairs and for ease of use. Then my husband got me a Dyson DC24 Animal.
On first use this made our carpets look like new, you would have thought I had never vacuumed before. However getting round to using it the first time was a challenge. You really need to read the instructions to work out what all the parts do, and I have found mine a little stiff when trying to use some of the functions. However once you are going this is well worth the money.
I have saved valuable time with the stair function, the Dyson can be left at the bottom of the stairs and you are able to reach all the way to the top step and can quickly hoover down. This saves your back as carrying the vacuum up the stairs is normally a heavy job. All the pieces are stored neatly on the appliance so it is easy to store. The vacuum is fantastic for cleaning up animal hair and has the extra tool; I have found this helpful for allergy management also
The only downsides I would say is that it is quite heavy, so when you need to take it upstairs it is heavy to carry, also I have found it difficult to vacuum up close to the kitchen units and so I have to use the nozzle tool. This does have both carpeted and hard/laminate floor options however which is useful. You are also able to buy the little bits and pieces that may break through wear and replace them, so if you are handy with DIY this is a piece of household equipment that can be cheap to maintain. It is simple to empty with no bags or difficult removal of bagless cyliders, the cylinder in the dyson just pops off and opens with the push of a button!
I would thoroughly recommend this, it does seem expensive, when there are cheaper products available, but I would not be without this Dyson and will never buy another brand of Vacuum.
