After months of moaning about our rubbish cheap vacuum, my partner finally caved in and let me purchase my first ever Dyson! It was purchased from Comet (before they went bust!) and cost £209.99.
The reason I chose this particular model is because you can switch from carpet cleaning to hard floor cleaning just by using a switch located on the vacuum head. The cleaner is upright and bag less, meaning there is no need to constantly purchase bags, which can be costly. You simply empty the cylinder by pushing down a button to remove it from the vacuum and then pushing down the same button, but harder into a bag to release the dust and it then easily clips back into place again. I empty mine after every 3/4 uses and there is a max line indicator so you will know when it needs doing.
Aswell as the upright function, there is also a removable hose and attachments. To remove the hose, again it's as simple as the push of a button and the attachments clip on and off easily. I use the hose in my stair carpets and can easily reach to the top of my stairs with the hose whilst the vacuum remains downstairs. No need to drag the vacuum up and down. Which is a good job as it is rather heavy! My only complaint! Although it is heavy to carry, it is light to push along and causes no friction on my carpets.
The Dyson is excellent at picking up dust, dirt and hair. Although if you are like me (or have anyone in your house that is!) I lose hair constantly, so there is always lots to vac up. Because of this, the bottom of the head, where the rollers are get entangled with hair which of course affects the suction. So I would recommend checking this often and getting a pair of scissors handy to cut the entanglements!
I have used this Dyson nearly every day for just over a year and it is still as powerful as the day I bought it. It is not very good at getting right into corners and upto edges but then again it's bit difficult to unattach the hose and get into all the books and crannies this way.
I award this vacuum 4 stars. Deducting a star purely for the heaviness and the expense.
I would have no doubts in purchasing more from the Dyson range.
I bought this All Floors Dyson for the convenience of being able to switch from cleaning hard floors to carpets in a flick of a button.
I originally had a cheap VAX machine that lasted a few months before it lost suction. Fed up with carpets that never felt clean despite hoovering for hours on end, I decided to pay the extra for a powerful Dyson.
As soon as I switched on the machine and started cleaning the carpets in the bedroom, I knew it was the right decision. The suction was so strong that I could hear the hidden dirt particles that the previous machine missed. Having the DC27 has shaved hours off my weekly cleaning routine.
I bought the Dyson DC 27 All Floors just under 5 years ago and it's still going strong. It comes with a spare washable filter that is washed every three months under cold water. It has many accessories and an extendable that helps you to reach hard to places such as window sills, skirting boards, light fittings and at times, I've used it to clean behind radiators or appliances.
I have very thick hair that gets everywhere. the DC27 is extremely good at removing my hair especially from the thick piled bedroom carpets.
We've recently moved house and our new house was extremely dusty after renovation work. The DC27 has been a time saver as it picks up so much dirt and grime. The only problem I have now is that the washable filters need to be replaced - I've struggled to get the filters clean and they've lost their effectiveness.
The customer service at Dyson is the best I've experienced for any household appliance. Several months ago, I noticed a burning smell coming from the machine. I contacted Dyson customer services on a Saturday and spoke to a very helpful and friendly representative based in a UK call centre. She booked an engineer to come round on a Saturday which meant I didn't need to take any time off work during the week. As expected, Saturday was booked up for several weeks but my vacuum still worked, it just had a slight burning rubber smell. To cut a long story short, the engineer didn't find anything wrong with the machine after he replaced the removable washable filter with a brand new one. despite not having a faulty machine, the engineer was really pleasant and didn't charge anything for coming out. they do warn you though that if the machine is blocked, they will charge a £80 for coming out to remove the blockage. I think this will only happen if you can easily remove the blockage yourself. The extra cost for a dyson is worth it just for the customer service.
The other downside may be the weight of it when carrying up and down the stairs. (I'm a petite lady who struggles with more than 4 shopping bags at a time so I may come across this problem with all upright cleaners)
