I like the way the Dyson moves because of the ball, it's a nice feeling but I don't know if it makes vacuuming any easier. One thing I do like about the ball is that is makes the Dyson feel lighter, like all Dysons the DC50 is very heavy but unlike other models that don't have the ball this one feels a lot more comfortable to push (even though I am glad I don't have it at home because I wouldn't want to carry it up the stairs very often!!). I like the way the head of the vacuum moves around on the ball because that makes it more versatile than other Dysons (and other vacuum cleaners from different brands) where the head is fixed in a straight on position and to move around anything you actually have to change the angle of the whole angle. I think that is where the ball has a big advantage for me because it does make cleaning a lot easier to do, but even after I've said that I still wouldn't pay too much extra for the ball technology because it doesn't cut down the length of time I have to vacuum for down enough so it is labour saving but not time saving.
his is a very loud vacuum and I wouldn't like to have it at home for that reason, me and my boyfriend both have 24 hour call out patterns for work so we sleep and are active at different times of the day and night sometimes. When my boyfriend is sleeping I like it that the vacuum I have at home is so quiet that it doesn't disturb him as long as I remember to close the door of the room I am vacuuming in, this vacuum can be heard in the main office which is quite a distance away from the staff room so I know it would not be suitable for my home environment.
I like how easy it is to do everything with this vacuum and the way you can do all the little jobs like removing hair from the brushes and taking the pipe out so easily because of the way it's designed with plastic clips everywhere. Talking about the brushes, it is very important to keep those clean because the head of the vacuum is covered with a transparent plastic so you can see everything that has got trapped and wound itself round the brushes. In this office there are a lot of women so the brushes got covered in hair during the few weeks I used this vacuum for.
This dyson is fabulous in many ways. It has really strong suction, is lightweight and good manoeuvrability. It delivers everything a dyson should deliver. It is easy to empty. The parts are easy to find and fit if needs be, but as is common with dyson products, this machine lasts well no matter what use it gets.
I have a bad back and I have found this vacuum cleaner to be one of the easiest to use in terms of back pain.
Brilliant at lifting animal hairs from carpets and soft furnishings. Good on stairs. Good everywhere. This dyson vacuum has all the hallmarks of an amazing machine.
Unfortunately I have to give it four stars because the size of the collection bucket (where the bag should be) is tiny! I appreciate that this helps to make the machine compact and light but realistically, certainly in our house, with an indoor furry pet, this must be emptied every day, after every use.
If you don't have any pets or of you don't mind emptying the drum every single time you use it, then everything else with this vacuum is amazing.
We brought the Dyson animal DC50 as our previous hoover broke. We went to our local electrical store with a budget but ended up paying siginificantly more in buying this model. In store the company was offering a part exchange scheme paying us an amount off the Dyson animal. We looked at the pro's and con's of numerous machines before deciding on this model.
The major selling points of this machine was it was light and very easy to manuover, it has several attachments to use for difficult cleaning areas and the major attraction was it comes with a five year guarantee.
The down side of purchasing this machine is obviously the initial cost which isn't cheap by any means. The way we looked at it was in terms of a longer term investment. We use the machine on a regular basis and have been very pleased with, the suction and power is very good.
This cleaner is much lighter than any other Dyson I have ever owned and I find that this cleaner is fantastic for people that live in two or more storey houses. The weight of this Dyson is so light that it does not hurt or feel like you have to be a weightlifter to be able to get it up and down your stairs.
This Dyson is far easier to use than any other I have owned before because of how this cleaners movement works off a large ball that rotates. This ball makes it miles easier to move it around your house as mine tended to catch on my carpet and mats and it took a lot of effort to get it to move whereas this Dyson just seems to glide across my carpets and sucks up every piece of dirt. Fair enough that sometimes it takes a few goes to pick up some pieces of dirt but that is the same with all cleaners.
This cleaner has a smallish dirt container which depending on the amount of dirt you happen to have lying around your house depends on how often you will have to empty the container.
This cleaner requires that its filters need to be cleaned every so often and I tend to do them every other week just so that the cleaner remains completely operational.
This Dyson is extremely reliable as there is nothing in the few months that I have owned it that it has not lifted. It has never failed on me, needed replacement parts or not been able to reach even the most hardest of places. I highly recommend this Dyson to anyone who either is looking to change brand of cleaners or just needs a new Dyson.
I purchased the Dyson Animal DC50 Upright vacuum cleaner a year ago, and am very pleased with it. It picks up all the dirt and pet hair from my carpet really easily on the first pass over. Its very easy to switch between using it on carpet and on laminate flooring. The long reach hose and cable means that i can vacuum the whole of my stairs leaving the machine at the bottom of the stairs (although it is a vert tight stretch to get to the very top step). One of the best features is how easy it is to empty the cylinder, just hold it over the bin and push the button and its empty! With lots of different attachments it means i can easily vacuum things other than the floor such as my sofa and curtains, as well as skirting boards. Although a little heavy taking upstairs and back down, i can manage it easily with just one hand. Its a great all round vacuum, especially for families with pets.
I purchased the Dyson DC 50 over a year ago now from Comet for £299 and apart from replacing the belt I have had no issues with it. As it was under an 5 year warranty Dyson offered to either send a engineer to replace or send me the part. I found it very simple to remove bottom covers and brush and replace the belt. I could not fault the after sales service. As for the Hoover itself we find it very light weighing just 5.4KG, easy to empty, it has excellent suction with it's 140Watt motor and having a dog it removes dog hairs with no problem. The power lead is 1.6metres long which maybe a tad short for some houses. Using the attachments it even tackles the dog hair in my car boot with no issues. It appears to be very strong and robust. The downside are is that the container seems to be emptied more often than our last Hoover, the Dyson is 0.8 litre capacity my previous hoover was 1.2 but the quality more than makes up for it. I would more than recommend this item even with the high price tag. It has now dropped in price and is available in Argos for £279.
For the last 5 years I have been using the Dyson DC04, and up until now it's still going strong. Its ability to hoover and has not diminished much, but it's now old and outdated, and my mum struggles to move it around.
Given that at times I have up to 10 dogs in the house (dog sitting business) and a German Shepherd of my own, I needed a hoover that is both extremely functional and proficient but without the tremendous weight and bulk of the DC04 and other hoovers of its class.
...SO I felt it's time to upgrade and purchase the DC50 Animal.
Having now spent several months with the hoover I am happy to say that I am as pleased as ever with its performance.
The first thing that I noticed is how easy and stress-free the handling is. In addition to the hoover being incredibly light, it's exciting looking rotating ball make it oh so easy to manoeuvre and access all areas of my house.
With the tremendous amount of hair and fluff that I have on the carpet floor in my house this hoover not only copes well, but flourishes! I think its suction really is amazing; the floors of my house are left spotless as it picks up the large mountain of dust and dog-hair that there is.
Now, the issue with this is that it strongly contributes to the hoover dustbin filling up very quickly, which means I have to empty it several times whilst I'm hoovering my house. I suppose that that's the predicted outcome of buying a smaller hoover though, so I have several bags ready and waiting when I start hoovering so I can quickly and easily empty out the hoover and continue on with the cleaning.
The 'Animal' has such a futuristic and quite innovative appearance that is very aesthetically stimulating.
It is recommended that you wash out the dust filters in the hoover every now and then, so I do so every 3 - 4 weeks, depending on how much I have used the hoover.
I hope this review has helped answer any question you might have had!
