Dyson DCO4 De Stijl
Advantages: Works well, good quality
Disadvantages: Heavy, expensive
Despite the fact I don't live in a mansion, I do like to vac almost every day so my vacuum cleaner does get quite a lot of use. Add to this the debris that comes from having two children round the house, and the fur that comes from a dog and a cat round the house, the vac is an important household appliance to me. I have had my Dyson approximately 6 years, and I think it is starting to get to the point of replacement - I won't hesitate in buying another vac like this one though.
When I first got the vac I was impressed with its performance. It seemed to have such sucking power, leaving my carpets visibly cleaner. It is reasonably heavy though; not so bad to manouevre round corners, but quite heavy when carrying up and down the stairs. However, the bottom of the vac is right-angled which makes it much easier to get into the corners. If this is not sufficient, there is also a detachable nozzle and a couple of useful attachements which can be added and used to clean further into corners, vac stair and reach places that are a little harder to get to. It's also useful and stretches far enough to reach any annoying cobwebs that can form on the ceiling.
The vac is bagless; all the dirt sucked up goes straight into a clear plastic cylinder at the front of the machine, so you can see what is being vacced up - this is helpful if you are worried that something has been vacced up that shouldn't have been. It is also simple to view when this is nearly full and requires emptying. Emptying is simple. Just prtessing a button releases the cylinder which can then be emptied and replaced, ready to start over again.
I have never had any major issues with it. On the odd occasion, due to my own fault, I think I have overfilled the vac, or sucked up something too big, both incidents resulting in a blockage. However, this was easily remedied as there is a panel at the bottom of the vac which can be removed in order to dislodge anything too large, or clear out any excess dirt.
As with most vacuum cleaners this is fairly noisy, but not too bad! I'd rather it worked well and put up with a little noise than the other way round! As i said, my Dyson is on its way out. This is due I think to general wear and tear over the years, the sucking power has worn off, the cylinder at the bottom is broken, and dirt has started to come out of the bottom if it is knocked. This is very frustrating after I have just vacced! It has worked well for all this time though, and at a cost of about £190 I am pleased that it has lasted this long.
I recommend the product and am looking forward to my next Dyson.
