Advantages: Powerful, easy to store
Disadvantages: Expensive
When our last Dyson broke we vowed not to buy another. They are expensive and we expected our other one to last more than three years. When we looked around though, other brands seemed lacking in either power or function. So we delayed a few more days and then thought, well three years of use, perhaps two or three times a week was not too shabby. So instead of another upright cleaner we went for the DC20. The reason we went for this model was that it would be easy to store. We shopped around online and managed to get a good deal from Curry's... I cannot recall the price, but they almost matched the online price with some cajouling.
So, unpacking was easy. The first thing that was really pleasing is just how small this packs down to. As you can see in the picture you wrap the bendy hose around the cleaner body and clip in the plastic hose and it is done. There is even a holder on the back for the main brush. To use the cleaner, you unwind the flexible hose, extend the metal shafts from the rigid part of the hose and snap in the cleaner head. The head is powered, so the brushes whizz around inside to aid in the picking up of hairs from your carpet. Or, you can push this little plunger in the side of the brush and the brushes stop spinning, ideal for solid floors to avoid scratching.
In with our deal we also got the stand crevice tool for getting into tight spaces, an upholstery brush, a laminate floor brush (very soft and works well) and a half width powerhead brush too. The cleaner is very powerful, sucks up and amazing amount of dirt and is so easy to use. Emptying is easy too. They even claim that the air that is filtered out of this thing is cleaner that the air that is sucked in... well, I haven't tested that part, but it doesn't smell too bad.
Well worth the money, very powerful, the King of Vacs.

- 03/10/08 Good start here, would be good to know how heavy it is, whether you think it is very noisy and if cleaning it out / genera maintenance such as thread removal on that power head or de-clogging is easy, because despite Dyson's air inspection tubes, many people find de-clogging a Dyson, a bit of a disaster. I like the DC20 however I'm just not a fan of bagless and neither do I like the price either. |
