I bought this vacuum cleaner two years ago, for £250 and I have used it 2-3 times a week since then. I was keen to buy a bagless one, as it is much quicker and easier to empty the dirt bucket than to change a bag. (I tend to prefer reusable things to disposable things). It's also one less thing to think about and to have to keep buying. I usually empty the bucket after cleaning the house (upstairs and downstairs) once or twice and I love seeing all the muck that comes out!! (You don't get that strange pleasure with a bag cleaner!)
I would describe its appearance as very robot-like, neat and compact, copper and grey in colour. The extension tube is adjustable, so you can lengthen and shorten it according to your own height. The cord is really long and easily reaches from the bottom to the top of my stairs. The whole hoover actually sits nicely on one step of the stairs while I am hoovering it, which is handy.
It comes with a powerful turbine head, for use on carpets; a stair tool (for the stairs); a crevice tool for skirting boards and under/in between furniture and a brush tool, which I use mainly for cobwebs. All of these tools attach to the back of the hoover and rarely fall off while it is being used. The hard floor tool and the mini turbine (for smaller areas like the car, sofa and stairs) do not have a little home at the back, but that is not a great hardship.
"Stowaway" refers to the way you wrap the hose round the body of the hoover when you have finished and it looks like a curled up, sleeping robot cat. You can then, indeed, stow it away. Very neat and tidy.
Other plus points:
the filter, which never needs replacing. Just wash it in plain water two or three times a year, leave it to dry and put back in.
it is quite light and easy to pull around.
not too noisy.
comes with a 5 year guarantee and a very helpful support centre you can call 7 days a week for help and advice, if you need it.
easy to order spare parts and accessories from the Dyson website shop.
I paid a fortune for a Dyson cylinder/canister vacuum, and their slogan is right on..."it never stops sucking." So true! The vacuum sucks alright! It is the worst vacuum I have ever owned. It is flimsily made. I had to replace the motor head four times. Everything goes wrong with it, often. It is messy to empty, or clean, and heavy to carry, getting even more awkward since the flimsy handle broke as well. I bought it four years ago and I will never buy or recommend a Dyson machine ever again.Kate Simpson
After years of having upright hovers i felt like a change. the Dyson range looked like the brand name i could trust. I when to our local appliance store and found the the Dyson Stowaway DC23. It is a small compact body in the purle and grey. The vacum lived up to all the claims made the suction was out of this world. With the light weight body doing the stairs became such an easy and quick task compaired with the old upright i used to use, also just the logistics of lifting the vacum up the stairs is now rear less of a struggle too. The HEPA filter also appears to keep the dust ect down too which in our modern world is a real plus. Emptying the vacum couldn't have been easier too simply unclip it, empty it and refit it no dusty bags or muck. The Dyson Stowaway DC23 follows the same simple rule of quilty.
