Advantages: Price, Weight, ?

Disadvantages: Brush bearings, Filters ?, Hard work

I bought this Electrolux Cyclone after reading about it on another site. It seemed to have everything I needed.... Mainly it was claimed to be good for people with a bad back....

Very soon, like a month, after having it I had to return it because the bearing on the roller brush had disintegrated. 6 weeks later I got it back again only to find, just 5 weeks later, it refused to work at all!! Yet another trip to the store to have it repaired, remember I had already lost 1.5 months of the warranty period while it was getting repaired.

This time it was the motor that had blown and it took over 2 months to be repaired. Now, after 18 weeks not in use, it was working again, and there was no way the shop was going to allow an extension to the warranty.

After several more weeks I found that this "Back friendly" vac was far from friendly, it is heavy, slow and hard work. It may be bag less but what a job to clean the dust holder...It also has a multi stage filter system?? Well how well this works I am not sure, the vac itself is always covered in dust and needs a good clean after every use. The filters are not cheap either, £14.99 for the Heppa alone, and this looks blocked after only a few weeks.

All in all I have regretted every buying the thing. The bearings on the brush are going again, now over a year later, but to replace them you have to buy a whole new brush, gone, it seems, are the days of being able to pop in and buy a new set of bearings and pop them in. Given the brush roller always holds on to every tiny bit of cotton or hair it is no wonder the bearings go so quickly. The covers for these seem designed to trap dust and grit and, unless you strip it down after every use; this simply tears the bearings apart in no time at all.

I can't even say it is a nice colour either.... but can say it looks stylish.... so long as it is not used.

I am now looking to buy another vac. it has to be cheaper, and b
etter, than constant, lengthy, repairs but am lost as to what to go for. Maybe all the new and fancy ideas are nothing more than expensive gimmick’s?? I will have to read a lot of comments here before I commit myself to a new one.

My advice, to anyone looking to buy a new vac, is.... Pay the price to get a well known and well respected model/make and do not get tricked by new, often wasted, gimmicks.

Try a dyson, washable life time filters not too heavy and masses of suction. I have a bad back too and find the dyson excellent
