Advantages: compact, fairly light weight, easy to use
Disadvantages: none that I can think of
I bought my little Mondo vacuum cleaner about a year ago and am still chuffed to bits with it. I bought it on-line after shopping around, reading up about the model and managed to get it for an incredibly reasonable £89 from Quality Electricals Direct (http://www.qed-uk.com). Having always had uprights before I was a little apprehensive about getting a cylendar cleaner - I'd always been told that they weren't as good as uprights, well that was a load of tosh. This Vacuum is packed with features including on-board tools, 5 stage filtration, retractable power cord (stored in the body), hard floor adjuster on the head, air flow adjuster on the handle & variable speed on the unit. The head slots neatly on to a holder on the back of the unit and the whole lot stores easily sat upright. I like the way that the head turns right around so that it sits flat against the stairs when I clean them - I can stand at the bottom stair and reach almost to the top stair with out moving! :0) The bags are really compact too and hold a huge amount of dust for their size. This is good becuase it means that when you change the bag the dustbuin doesn't become full up the minute you diposit the dust bag in there. Bags and Filters are reasonable priced too and pretty easy to find (although, don't go to Tempo in Oxford and expect them to have any in - travel to Homemaker in Abingdon where they always have loads in stock!) This is a great little machine, easily capable of handeling my grubby carpets. I get a lot of dirt walk through the house due to the fact that the front door is in the living room and we front right on to a large Green. I also, until January, had a house rabbit (I will leave you you imagine the amount of straw and hay she hooned around the house!). The Mondo coped incredible well with the rabbits untidy habits. I highly recomend this cleaner!

- 09/05/01 Good Op (loved the title!)!
Being from continental Europe (where cylinder vacs are the norm), I've been trying for ages to convince my other half to get a cyliner vac, but to no avail - then again it isn't HIM who has to carry our heavy upright vac up the stairs, so I understand him ;-)
