Advantages: Simple, rugged, reliable
Disadvantages: None
Look around at the vacuum cleaners used by cleaners of shops, hotels and restaurants and you will see that a lot of them use Numatic Henrys. They use them because they are cheap, durable and effective. My wife used to work at a public school where they had 90 cleaners, each of which had a Henry vacuum cleaner. They had very few problems with them at all. When we moved to a new house with new carpets, then we bought one as well and have been very happy with it since. In the latest Which? magazine reliability survey, 97% of the Numatic Henry's in the sample of 150 had had no problems and this was at the top of the table. The Henry vacuum cleaner is a simple and rugged design. You twist the top half of it to remove the lid. Inside is a washable filter and a disposable paper bag. Some people empty the bags and reuse them. However, when you do this, the suction is reduced as microscopic pores in the bag get blocked with dust (see http://www.ristenbatt.com/bag_eff.htm for a more complete explanation). Compared to a cylinder Dyson vacuum cleaner, the purchase price is about half, the running costs are around about the same - the Dyson might not need new paper bags but it does need replacement filters every so often. The list price of a Numatic Henry is about £110 or so. You can get them for £120 every so often if you shop around. You can also get a few similar models. Some of these have an improved HEPA filter, others are bigger, or a metal case.

- 23/06/04 I would like a henry, but i have a dyson DC07 at the moment. Does anyone know why the hose is connected to henry's nose, and not his mouth? Surely he should eat the dust, not breath it in? If anyone has an answer to that one, can they leave a comment on one of my reviews. Thanks!!!! |
