Advantages: Quality, Cable length, Suction

Disadvantages: None!

You may think of me as a little sad but I LOVE vacuuming. I love it so much that I'm on hoover #3 in 2 years. I don't brake them, just like to have a change and they all go to good homes. It may seem like an expensive hobby but at least it's a healthy one.

I owned a Goblin-Aztec 1405, it served me well for 8 months or so but it was time for something new. Out came the brochures and off down the retail park I went.

I had my heart set on the Sanyo SCX1500 - a bagless cyclonic cylinder, unfortunately it was out-of-stock everywhere I went. I had a browse around the various models on display and that's when the cheeky little smile of 'Henry' caught my eye.

I'd never considered a 'Henry' before, for the price (I paid £94 @ Comet) he seemed a little basic. There are no flashing lights to tell you the bag needs changing, no variable power controls and the motor is only rated at 1100w.I decided I'd give him a go, if not totally happy I could return him for another brand.

I made my purchase and took 'Henry' back home with me. The first thing I noticed when I unpacked him was the feeling of quality. He comes supplied with an array of tools and stainless steel tubes. The tubes come in 3 parts - there are the 2 extension poles and the curved handle part - this can be fitted in 2 different positions to suit different heights. The tools include: a combination floor head, a crevice nozzle, a dusting brush and a stair tool with attachable brush, these all feel very sturdy. The flexible hose attaches to the handle part seperately, this makes it easy to remove blockages should they occur. The hose is also 6ft long (much longer than most) and is 'anti-crush'

The main body of 'Henry' is lightweight (6.6 kg) and has 4 castors which make him stable and easy to manouevre.

I studied the instructions (these are pictorial so very easy to follow) and placed one of
the 5 supplied dustbags into 'Henry'. The bags hold 9 litres of dust (most cylinders hold 4-5 litres) and are cheap and easily available - a pack of 10 costs £4.99. Henry has a 'giant permatex filter' which is washable so is very economical.

Now for the fun part - how does he perform?

I clipped 'Henry' back together and attached his hose. I then pulled out his cord and was amazed at the length - 26ft! This enables you to vacuum a whole house without having to change sockets. With a flick of his little red switch away we went. My old Goblin was quiet, 'Henry' is super quiet, you can hear the air flow! I tackled the lounge with it's deep-pile carpet first. There is a valve on 'Henrys' pipe that when opened reduces his suction to 70% its former. I had to reduce the suction as it is very strong and I found the floor head difficult to push. Once opened though the floor head glided no problem, it even raised the pile. Next onto the hall where the carpet is of a shorter pile, it vacuumed a dream, even trodden in dirt didn't stand a chance, the same was true on my laminate floor, no effort required. I used the 'dusting brush' to clean off my hifi and tv, it performed better than those new fangle 'magic dusters'. Once I'd given the place a good once over I unplugged 'Henry' and rewound his cord. This is done by turning a little handle on his top, the cord rewinds quickly and smoothly.

I've used many brands of vacuum over the years from Dyson to Vax, Electrolux to Hoover and Goblin Aqua Vacs, none has pleased me more than 'Henry'. If your looking for a new hoover and want quality and performance over fashion and gimmicks forget the rest - 'Henry are the BEST!

Great op, nicely written and gave lots of useful information, thank you for even bothering to put in the prices of the bags! One word of advice, though: it would be easier to read and look so much better if you corrected the spelling, punctuation, capital letters etc.
