Advantages: strong suction, long flex, large capcity, doesn't fall over, cute face

Disadvantages: doesn't load the dishwasher, doesn't iron, can't drive

Initially, we were very pleased to receive the gift of a second-hand compact Hitachi vacuum cleaner, but I grew to despise it. The Hitachi’s suction was pathetically weak, and the stinkiness it emitted following its attempts at cleaning rendered it as little more than a smell-making noise machine. What is more, baby was terrified of it, and went into a crying fit even if I attempted to move it, never mind switch it on. He eventually got over his fear, but by this time, I had had enough of the Hitachi, and all in all, our carpets were looking very dingy as a result of from infrequent and inadequate cleaning.

We now had some money to spend and the time was ripe to purchase a nice new vacuum cleaner. Flicking through the Argos catalogue, we were presented with various models which all promised to clean in a variety of different ways, all with wildly differing specs and prices. I saw Henry’s smiling face, tempting me to buy him. I also saw other temptations from other machines, in the form of eco-friendly permanent bags, promises of micro-filtration and cleaner air. What to do? Well, the internet would have the answer, we thought, which is where we discovered the haven of wide-ranging reviews by the general public, which is dooyoo.co.uk.

After reading very many glowing opinions, we decided that Henry was definitely someone we wanted to share our home with. After all, we’d seen his familiar smile in a variety of commercial premises across the land, and what’s good enough for shops, schools and even building sites would definitely be good enough for our humble home.

Since our carpets had been sadly neglected, we had bought Henry in conjunction with a Hoover Jet ‘n’ Wash, which I have also reviewed. We now had the equipment to create a cleaner home and a better smell.

Henry certainly lived up to expectations. He even came with a Henry baseball cap for his new owners, to celebrate his 21st bi
rthday. The instructions were visual and idiot-proof, the stainless steel tubes sturdy and the connections firm. The dust-bags were also surprisingly large. I was very pleased to see the carpet lifting as I started to vacuum, just as I’d read in the opinions on dooyoo. The Hitachi couldn’t even hope to do that in its wildest dreams, despite claiming to be a more powerful – 1300 watts compared to Henry’s 1100. Henry does an excellent job, and the cable is so long that I can go around the whole flat, including down the stairs, from just one power point. What is more, the baby loves him and is completely distraught when we have to put him away!

Coincidentally, in the very same day we purchased Henry, we noticed that the dentist next door had thrown out an extremely old and battered Henry, together with the box from the new Henry which they had obviously purchased as a replacement. This confirmed what we had heard from many sources: This is a very reliable machine, and once you’ve had a Henry, you’ll stay faithful to him.

Where is her review of the Hoover Jet 'n' Wash referred to in the fourth paragraph? Anyone have a review of their own?

A lovely opinion about a seemingly "cute" product. Nice one! :o)

Ooh, is that really how you found dooyoo? Looking for a hoover? Cool!
