The alux vacuum is a cleaner that comes in a bright red colour, and we have had this for many years. It works like a standard vacuum, but has various heads and thing that attach to the pole bit that you whole. Its also a compeltely bagless vacum, and has s sort of plastic capsule at the front where the dust gathers, and you just simply throw this out, which is better for the environment and your wallet comparing with using those bags.
The good? This is a fairly cheap vaccum (i forget how much it was new, but i remember it was in the lower ends for a bagless type), and does the job pretty well i guess. Getting used to it is a bit tricky at first, as the instructions aren't very good, and everything seems to be not where you expect it to be. It doesn't have a "high power mode", you have to sort of press the power button, but i just hoover high power, whats the real problem with doing that?
It has 2 main buttons, one for power, one for the wire reel drawing in the wire. It also has a catch for removing the dust pot (not sure what the real name is).
One problem i have had with the cleaner is the wheels, it a sort of 2x1 arrangement, 2 wheels at the back, 1 and the front, and it means that sudden turns can tip the thing over. Also the vacumm isn't very moveable, its kinda prone to getting caught on things. But this is a fairly minor probem.
So, what to give it? I think i will give this 4/5. It does everything it says on the tin, and does it perfectly well, it just doesn't strive to do anything special, and honestly there is nothing standing this out from competition apart from the bagless system, so i guess it puts it aboe a 3/5. But honestly, just think of this as a bog standard cleaner that doesn't need bags.
I was very pleased when my husband arrived home from shopping one day with this new hoover in tow. Hoover have always had a good reputation and with three cats, i thought this looked the perfect choice. Little did i know what stress awaited me within that cardboard box!!
I have spent the last year fighting with this hoover and its drove me around the twist. It is lightweight and being bagless, the suction is good. The hoover pipe is extendable and can be pulled out and adjusted to the appropriate hieght for ease of cleaning. Unfortunately within 2 weeks of use the catch had slackened and the pipe now flops in and out like a piston when using it. This is very annoying and painful if it catches your fingers! Not to mention what it does to your stress levels. A few weeks after that the wheel fell off and i ended up dragging the vaccuum behind me until my husband decided to superglue it back on! The attachments are also very poorly designed and soon become loose. This means that they regurlarly fall of when using it and i've actually even tried taping them on! Within three Months the hoover is now in such a state its barely usable, planning to buy a new vaccuum next week sometime and this time it definately won't be a Hoover.
Having recently moved into my new flat, one of the essential items on my shopping list was a hover. I decided on the TC1185 and so far I've been very happy with my choice.
Firstly, it works! The suction is good and it is effective even at cleaning up after my slightly (ok very) messy pets. There is a button to adjust the power of the suction and while I normally have it very near the maximum it works well enough at a lower power for most day to day needs. The hoover has a HEPA filter, and to be perfectly honest I don't actually know what that is but apparently it makes it better for homes with pets and I don't have any problems with dust or fur since buying this hoover.
The hoover is bagless, but unlike other bagless hoovers I've owned, emptying the contents does not release a horrible cloud of dust and nastiness back into the room. You simply unclip the round container from the front of the hoover, take the lid of with one click, and tip it into the bin. Technically you're supposed to wash the filter and leave it to dry out fully every now and then but I haven't got round to it in the last 3 months and its still working fine!
This hoover isn't quite as unattractive as most others on the market, which I find are either depressingly functional or trying too hard to look like lamborghinis! Its quite small and compact which is great for those of us in small flats as it can be tucked away without taking up too much space. Its lightweight so easy to carry around between rooms, especially with the convenient handle.
The only downside I can think of is that the capacity of the dust container is not really enough for a bigger house or a family, you'd be emptying it constantly! So this is probably a better bet for people like me, who live in flats and don't have that much floor space to keep clean!
I bought this hoover for £60 from Tesco, and I feel it was good value for money. I've bought cheaper supermarket brand hoovers before and they just haven't worked as well so were false economy. Hopefully this one will last a long time and keep up the good work!
