Updated Sept 2013 - this is a rubbish cleaner - finally given up and bought a Dyson! It never sucked up properly after the first few cleans and the filter had to be washed out after every use!
Original review pre 2013 -
A vacum cleaner is one of those items that just suddenly stops working and you have to rush out and buy another! That is where the whole problem started!! Our dyson finally packed up after 13 years service which is pretty good for a hoover these days.
We needed a new one and I feel perhaps we rushed into getting this one (pardon the pun!). I'm still in 'love it - hate it' mode at the moment! I will endevour to explain why....
** Cost **
Comet was closing down and so we popped in rather last minute and saw this vacum cleaner in the closing down sale for £109, then there was 10% off so we decided to go for it. It has a recommended price of £199. Hoover is a good name and it seemed quite powerful. The shop store assistant happened to be using one a little distance away so that seemed a good sign. Lastly it was purple and I love purple (not a good reason to buy a vacum cleaner though!)

** Using the hoover rush **
Well here is my dialema. When it arrived home and we pulled it out of the box and tried it on the carpet which after a few days without cleaning was in need of help.
- Positives -
Wow, it really sucks up the dirt amazingly well and this was at a medium setting, it has a slider setting so you can have it gentle or max the power of the suction until it almost sucks the carpet up (if you have loose carpet beware!) The dog hair attachment is really good and the furniture one works really well. It really is a dream to get rid of dirt.
It was easy to use, the nozzles are easy to change they just pull on and off. The wand is easy to open and adjust.
The bagless bit is an excellent design for the open to get rid of dirt bit, there is a button on the container that you push and the end bit flips open and gravity means that it all just drops in your wheelie bin, rather than having to bash it like I did with the dyson. Then you flip it to put the lid back on and it slots in the actual hoover easily.
- negatives -
Unfortunately there are a few (it's unfortunate because the suction is so good these let it down and are annoying).
The bagless container has a ridiculous design so that if you suck up too much long hair or even just general household stuff the suction deteriorates and it starts making a weird noise. That's when I found that the bit near the hepa filter gets blocked because of the way it's moulded. So I had to pull all the hair away from it, untangle it, put it back together and hey presto it worked, until the next time I used it when I had to do it again. So basically I now have a hoover that I have to empty and untangle after every use. If you don't do this then the hepa filter doesn't work properly and gets all bunged up.
Also I feel that the bagless container isn't all that big so it fills up quickly and like above if I'm doing a few rooms in one go it soon fills up.
Another thing with this hoover is the noise, it is so so loud, I guess that's because it's so powerful and to be honest the higher the setting the louder it is, but it is much louder than our last hoover.
It doesn't glide around all that easily either but I manage.
** Overall **
It is lightweight which is good, the length of cord isn't all that long but it's not a problem for us. Also the main attachment seems a bit basic but it does the trick.
All in all I'm kind of happy because it does get up the dirt really well, but I'm kind of annoyed because there are a couple of design problems that have slowed the job down because I have to keep picking bits out of the machine to get it to go to it's full potential each time.
For me a vacum cleaner is something that should pick up the dirt and it certainly does that, I've had some that have been rubbish at picking up dirt. But a vacum cleaner should also be easy to use and not take too long. So i've marked it down for those particular points but not been too harsh as it does do the job!
