Advantages: Cheap, efficient and easy to operate.

Disadvantages: It has a bag that need emptied.

After having 2 dyson vacuum cleaners in the last 7 years I decided to purchase a cheaper one this time and see how it went.

With 3 small children and a golden retriever and a navy blue carpet my vacuum cleaner is hard worked but a money was tight I decided to take a risk and buy a refurbished one from Ebay.

After lots of research I finally decided on the Hoover U3525. It retailed around £100 but the reconditioned one I got for £35. I thought if I have to buy a new one every year then it would still be cheaper than buying a new dyson every 2 or 3 years.

When it arrived I was apprehensive as I had never purchased anything this way before. It came by courier in a new box and when I opened it is was like it was brand new. I would new have know it was reconditioned.
I couldnt wait to try it out. At 2000 watts it was really strong suction wise and as it has a 6 metre cord I was able to vacuum right throught the lounge diner without having to unplug it and plug it in again. The carpet looked great, next came the stairs and I found that the 3.4 metre hose meant I could clean all 13 stairs which the vacuum was still at the bottom. The turbo brush was a godsend for removing the dog hairs from the stairs and it also comes with a dusting tool and crevice tool as well as an upholstery tool which is great for under the sofa cushions. All the tools have on board storage so they are close at hand and it has 4 floor settings including hard floor which works really well on our laminate flooring in the kitchen. I also find it extremely light at 6.9kg which makes it easy to move and glide over the carpet regardless how deep the pile is. This vacuum doesnt appear to emmit a lot of hot air from the filter but Ido think it is quite noisy compared to the dyson so I avoid vacuuming while the kids are sleeping.

This vacuum cleaner does require bags that cost around £3.50 for 5 and they last between 2 and 3 weeks each as it a 4.2 litre capacity. I dont find this a problem.

I was really impressed but wondered how it would stand up over time.

Now 18 months on I have to say that as long as you keep the filter clean, you just need to wash it quickly by hand and leave it to dry throughly, it still picks up pet hairs and crumbs like the first day I got it.
I certain wouldnt be going back to a dyson after this. It is Hoover all the way for me.

Summary: Light to use, Hard on dirty. Excellent value.

Good compact review here. If I was in the market for this I'd like to know if its heavy to glide over carpets, also are the filters washable and is there long power cord on it? Also, is this machine noisy? Does it put out a lot of hot air at the front of its filter? How much are the bags and do they have a large capacity?
