Advantages: Picks up well

Disadvantages: Unbelievably expensive and you'll never use it for everything it can do.

I'll admit that I am an owner of a Kirby and that I only bought one because my husband sold them for 2 weeks!

On the whole, it is a very good hoover (sorry, KIRBY), but when I think what else I could spend my £55 a month on I could cry. When the demonstration is done it's very effective, especially when they use the machine to clean your mattress. You end up thinking that you'll never sleep in your bed again until you've got the Kirby on it. In reality, despite having had my Kirby for over 6 months, I've never used it on the mattress.

It's quite a bulky machine, and when the bag is full it's also very heavy. Try carrying it upstairs when you're 8 months pregnant like I was and you could do yourself an injustice. Yes, it comes with a multitude of attachments so that you can hoover the curtains, the floor, the beds, shampoo the carpet etc etc, but you'll hardly ever use it other than for hoovering the carpets.

The first you'llprobably hear of Kirby is when a salesman turns up at your door offering to enter you into a prize draw for a car or a holiday etc. They'll ask you if you're employed etc. They fill in the form for you, leave you the stub and off they go. As soo as they get back to their group, basically if they don;t think you earn enough money to buy one of these things they'll throw your form in the bin, thus never entering you into the prize draw anyway.

The bags are also expensive - and whilst the machine itself does pickup very well, at £25 + p & p for 3 bags, it's rather expensive.

Do yourself and your bank balance a big favour and buy yourself 6 Dysons instead, I wish I had! Isn't hindsight wonderful??

P.S. - Hubby packed it in because he was working 15 hour days knocking doors to get appointments for demonstrations.

You will need more than six Dysons (one Dyson every four years) to compare to one Kirby. Not just in cleaning power but in durability. One Kirby will outlast six plastic Dysons. Buy another Hoover for the upstairs, so you won't have to lug the Kirby upstairs. Or go on Ebay and buy another Kirby for the upstairs for well under 500 quid.
