Advantages: Powerful, build quality, range of attachments
Disadvantages: Heavy when in neutral
I have owned a Kirby for the past 15 years and have never had a day's trouble from it. It has an annual service, paid for monthly- which I admit probably costs the amount of a small vaccuum cleaner- and every year the service engineer makes the machine look as if it's brand new again.
We have a three storey house with carpets throughout, apart from the hallways, so the amount of vacuuming I do is considerable.
What I like most about it is it's a really solid machine, but when it's kicked into 'drive' (yes this is a vacuum cleaner with gears) it is easy to handle.
What my husband likes most about it is all the gadgets and gizmos that come with it. You can attach a carpet shampooer easily and it even comes with a dedicated floor sander for when you need to sand down your wooden floors.
There's a tool for everything. I find spring cleaning with the Kirby a breeze, because I can get into every nook and cranny imaginable with all the attachments.
It has a headlight so you can see where you are cleaning, it gets right to the edge of the carpet unlike any other machine I've ever known and you can lower the brushes according to the thickness of the carpet.
As an asthma sufferer, this machine has been a Godsend as I know that when I clean a room, I won't be wheezing 24 hours later. You can also change it's structure and use it as a hand-held bed cleaner, positively crucifying those dust mights. I've never known a more powerful cleaner.
I wouldn't be without my Kirby. I bought it when my mum bought one and I could see the difference it made with her carpets and the improvement in my dad's breathing, especially at night.
Overall, a legend in the living room!

- 19/02/09 Welcome to Dooyoo
Ive used Kirby machines before and find that they are far too big for me even though they are well built. A lot more info would be good here especially for future buyers such as:
Weight
Bag capacity
Price of the Kirby when you bought it
Price of the bags
Maintenance - easy to do when a drive belt breaks etc?
Any filters?
Noise levels
If you update your review please message me. As far as I know Kim & Aggie have a three tier vacuum cleaner range used in their series: Dyson, Sebo and Henry machines - all three are substantially smaller than Kirby machines.
