Miele Cat and Dog
Advantages: Lightweight, compact, good array of tools
Disadvantages: Overpriced in my opinion
Our main home vacuum for the last couple of years was a Dyson but just before Christmas, it started to become unreliable and didn't seem to do the job as well as it did so we decided to upgrade to a newer model. We have two dogs in the house and the one especially moults quite badly so we decided to look at a model that was specifically designed to get rid of pet hair effectively.
My partner was told by a friend about the Miele Cat & Dog Cylinder Vacuum and he raved about it so we decided to do some research on it. With it being from a brand like Miele I expected it to be rather cheap as I didn't envisage Miele being a premium brand in this field, so I was quite surprised to see that in some places, this vacuum retails at over £200.00, though after shopping around, we managed to purchase it for £170.00 which was a little better, but still more expensive than I had first imagined.
Although I loved my Dyson, I struggled with it being a big, bulky, upright vacuum so I was happy to find this one was quite small and lightweight in comparison to my Dyson which made manoeuvring it around the house much easier and it is also quite compact so is easy to store away.
The vacuum comes with the usual array of tools which include a crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle and a dusting brush which are all stored on board the vacuum.
This is a 2000 watt vacuum and feels quite powerful for its size and it also has really good suction. It has a 3.5 litre capacity. The more you use this vacuum, the more you can see why it costs what it does as it does have a few handy little features on it. For a start, there is the cable rewind button and one touch of the button rewinds the cable back into the unit. There is also a silence setting which makes vacuuming a much more peaceful process and you don't compromise on performance in order to get the peace and quiet you require.
Our home is considered quite large for a 3 bedroomed and has a lot of floor space but no matter where you plug this vacuum in, you can reach around the entire floor of the house without having to plug it in elsewhere so the cable is a decent length and the only time I have to remove the plug and plug it in somewhere else is to move up to the top floor of the house.
Although this doesn't quite have the power that my Dyson did, vacuuming with this is much easier due to its weight. Although lightweight, it doesn't feel cheap and flimsy at all and it does feel like a well-made vacuum but instead of my having to struggle to get the vacuum up and down the stairs like I did with the Dyson, I simply wind the plug back in and carry it upstairs with a greater amount of ease than with my Dyson.
As it doesn't quite have the Dyson suction, I find that I have to go over certain areas more than once to ensure that all bits and pieces are picked up off the carpet.
As for its main function of getting rid of pet hair, it does do this pretty well in my opinion. Like other bits on the carpet, it doesn't necessarily go first time, but if I go over the area a couple of times then I can't see any traces of pet hair at all so it does do the job well.
The range of tools included are really handy for getting into the hard to reach places that the main vacuum won't to ensure all bits and pet hairs are completely eliminated from my carpets.
Overall, this is a pretty decent vacuum and I have gotten on quite well for it. It is really easy to carry round and work with which is nice and doesn't take much room to store. It also has a good array of tools for all nooks and crannies. Power wise though, it isn't quite on a par with the Dyson and for that reason, I do feel this is a little overpriced. It is a really good vacuum but I think that considering most stores market it around the £200.00 mark, I believe around the £130-150 mark would be a more realistic price for this vacuum so therefore it comes with a recommendation from me, but loses a star for the slightly over-rated price.
Summary: A good vacuum but could be a bit cheaper
