Advantages: Good Cleaning, Good Quality, Very Powerful
Disadvantages: Only available in red, filters expensive, uses bags.
Why am I writing about a vacuum cleaner? Well, I had a think about what I could strongly recommend to other dooyoo users and the Miele Cat and Dog Vacuum Cleaner was very high up on the list. Miele target this device at cat and dog owners who need a powerful machine to get up those animal hairs that other cleaners leave behind. And it works. I know it's impossible to get excited about the performance of a household cleaner but this machine is just so good. Thoughtful design features abound - the way you can lie it down for normal cleaning and stand it on end when space is at a premium is neat; and in either mode the head unit can be clipped to the side of the cleaner when you take a break. This is especially useful when carrying the unit about. Miele were also one of the first to make a cleaner where the hose could swivel right round through 360 degrees. The cable retracts into the back of the cleaner without fuss - years ago I had a Hoover with a similar feature, except that on the Hoover the cable always needed helping back in. The main unit and all attachments have a high quality feel with metals and good quality plastics being used throughout. The tubes telescope so that they don't need to be taken apart for storage, and whilst the hose and tubes are standard size they never block. The Cat and Dog model includes an extra filter which seems to minimise particles going back into the air. These aren't cheap, but if you like you can replace it with a standard filter when it's worn out. The unit comes with 3 small attachments, and two head units. We only use the turbo power head which does a great job, but which is starting to sound a bit noisy after 5 years heavy use. Had one problem with it when I left the attachment lid open whilst vacuuming the car. Pulled the machine under the door and 'Snap' went the lid. I called Miele who said that it might b
e a design flaw with the lid. Despite my accurate claims that it was entirely my own fault, they insisted on sending a new lid FOC. Good PR move - I will definitely buy another Miele, if and when this one expires.

- 29/04/01 Thanks for your comments. I'm going to offer to do all my mates hovering so that I can test out their vacuum cleaners and review them. A couple of days ago I reviewed a £22,000 motor car and an £149 vacuum cleaner. So far the latter has had over twice as many reads as the former! |

- 29/04/01 Man cannot live by alcohol alone (or fags). That sounds a bit rude !
Glad you like the Miele, but the one belonging to my in-laws' felt awkward compared with the hoovers/electrolux we use at home. I've 'done 3 vacuum cleaner ops, but much preferred writing the ones on Guinness and various whiskys ....
BTW Slim Lee, try the remedy I suggested to kenjohn. Buy a gallon of pure nicotine, and place your bare tootsies in iyt whilst you are watching Tv/listening to music/even drinking. Much more effective than these weak patches !
Farmers can buy nictine as an insecticide, so I don't think it will be that expensive or difficult to obtain. .... |

Never tried the patches over my mouth, definately stop you smoking that will! Another method that seems to work for me if the increase in my alcohol consumption and compulsion for betting. Replace one addiction with two more, damn, i'm a lost cause ... |
