I have had this vacuum cleaner for about 6 years now and am very satisfied with it. Before this one I have has various ones including cylinder models, but this one beats the lot.
For a start it is pretty compact, I can easily lift it up and down the stairs though I expect if you are elderly or infirm you might find this difficult (but you would probably find this difficult with any other cleaner!)
The hose is extendable which is great as it means you can stand straight to use it.
It has very powerful suction, clearly very useful if you have to get pet hairs out of the carpet, but in any case it gets most dirt up in a single sweep.
The three interchangeable heads for carpet, hard floors and a mini one for upholstery (I use this one for my stairs as well) all work very well at their individual jobs and are easy to change. there are also 3 smaller hose heads housed in the main body of the cleaner so these are all kept very neat.
Oh and I know its a small thing but I do love the retractable power cord- just makes the job a little easier!
As the headline suggests: I came to the conclusion many years ago that buying a cheap, but sub-standard vacuum is just a poor investment.
This Miele model is well built, in an attractive colour and very easy to use and built with the pet owner in mind. I think that the design is lightweight given that the it has such a powerful motor, which provides great suction and until the bag is full I have not noticed any loss of suction as I use it.
This makes cleaning very easy. There is a super long cable, so no plugging in and unplugging. The suction level is adjustable, using a dial on the front, meaning going from hard floors to carpet to mats is a breeze. There are three on-board tools which neatly fit in under the lid. The mini brush is my best tool - I use it for cleaning curtains, hoovering out and keeping drawers clean, skirting boards etc.. There is also a crevice tool, for those hard to reach spots and a mini head-like tool which I use on leather sofas and cushions on a lower suction setting. The long hose and slim stand up design also make it easy to clean stairs.
It is also easy to store ours in a utility room, there is a notch on the side which holds the hose and the head as you may be able to see from the picture included. But equally it would fit under the stairs or in a corner as you can take the hose apart into three pieces, anywhere you keep your current vacuum.
This particular model comes with a special head with revolving brushes to catch pet hair, which works a dream and is the best model I have known for this.
Changing the bag is easy and you only need to change the air filter each time you get a new box of bags, this is also very simple.
Having bought the well known 'bagless' brand in the past and only trying a Miele by chance, there is no comparison - The Miele model is also lighter and easier to move around a room and change to using one of the on-board tools.
You may think that the price is expensive, however I think it provides great value for money in time saved as it just makes the most mundane of tasks so much easier.
The only disadvantage I can think of is that only two bag is included in the box, however I managed to get a box of bags thrown in for free when purchasing the vacuum.
