Why did I decide to buy a steam cleaner? I'd been watching the selling channels on satellite tv and you know how they make everything look good. I'd spent an hour watching the presenters steam blasting everything in sight with a snazzy looking hand held steamer and thought, I'll have one of them beasties. Being a yorkshire man I thought, if I search the internet I'll find one cheaper than they sell them for on telly, so I ended up with this one, not the type I was looking for but the reduction from £49.99 down £19.99 in yet another argos sale swung it for me, (they're curently selling at £33.29 there in a sale)

As soon as I got it home it was out of the box and straight into some steamy action. Does it do the job? in a word, YES, it did an excellent job on everything I tried it on, it removed every spot of grease on my cooker and brought the oven and grill racks back to as good as new, if you use it on tiles it won't bring the grouting back to as white as the day you tiled but it does make a noticeable difference compared to spray cleaners. It removed stubborm marks off a kitchen floor that mopping wouldn't and did a great job doing a bit of spot cleaning on a carpet, a quick steam of the sette and chairs had them looking great, and once when I was stain/varnishing a new wooden fire surround and knocked the tin over onto a beige rug, I was straight on with the steamer and it did me proud, no stain. It's done a great job on everything I've tried it on, it's just a matter of using the right nozzle/attachment for the job. The one thing it's really good at is cleaning windows and mirrors with the squeegee attachment though it takes a few goes to get the knack. The attachments are easy to fit, a simple slot in and twist, and though it says use tap water, I've used the scented ironing water in in mine for a nice smell while steaming.

There are a couple of minor downsides, 1) you need a few cloths or a towel handy as you get a lot of water esp on windows, tiles, doors and appliances....2) it's constant steam, so if you're in a small enclosed area it can be like working in a sauna....3) you have to turn it off to switch nozzles to avoid the risk of burning yourself......4) it's not big enough for whole carpet cleaning/wallpaper stripping

What do you get for your money? the steamer with a 1 litre tank, a filling jug and funnel, a round brush, a jet nozzle, a directional nozzle, an upholstery nozzle with 3 cloth caps, window squeegee attachment, a carrying strap so you can carry it hanging from your shoulder and a storage bag. It has a solid safety cap, a fast 3 minute heat up time and steams at 115 deg. It's power consumption is 2000w heat up and 1200w in use. The power cord is a generous 4.6 metres and it weighs in at 2.9kg. It has the British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval and you even get a free dealing with allergy booklet.

Overall for some good clean steamy action around the house you won't go far wrong with this.
