Advantages: Cleaned windows very well
Disadvantages: didn't clean much else!
My Granddad bought this steam cleaner from Amazon wanting to clean his rug in the living room as it was getting a little grubby. I helped him pick one with good reviews on there and the description sounded like £39.99 was giving you a lot to work with. He ended up giving it to me as he found it so rubbish on the rug and had not other use for it. I of course felt awful that I'd picked something that was no good, but was happy to try it out to see if it would work for what I wanted to do with it.
The steam cleaner is a small hand held cleaner which heats the water you put in the release steam from the nozzle. It comes with different attachments which depend on what you are cleaning. There is attachments for small areas like taps or skirting boards and a larger one for carpets, windows and even upholstery.
You can clean other things with this compact steam cleaner and as long as it's not electrical, go for it. I have cleaned the doors and the shelves in my fridge with it no problem and outsides, but don't clean anything near electrics as it's water and could damage your products.
The steam cleaner:
Depending on how much time you think you need to clean the area you are going to do, there is a jug provided which will help you measure that in water.
1 jug at the specified level will give you approximately 10 minutes, 2 jugs will give you 20 minutes and 3 jugs, 30 minutes. I started off with just 1 jug as I was just going to clean the taps and surrounding area of my kitchen sink.
I filled it with 1 jug of water, switched the on button which is located on the side behind a clean rubber seal just so it doesn't get wet and cause any problems for the steamer.
I held the nozzle attachment I had added into the sink as it did state it may splurt water when it's heated up before the steam starts to come out. It did do this so I was glad I was holding it in the sink. It took around 2 minutes to heat up the 1 jug of water and off I went.
I cleaned around the sink drying to get off anything I could. It didn't do anything to clean the sink around the taps where my white sink was slightly discoloured from limescale.
I was a bit miffed at this and carried on cleaning in other areas of the kitchen.
I thought I would give the oven door a blast. Nothing.
Then the windows on the back door? Nothing.
Surely the dusk around the washing machine dials then? nope.
I was started to see the pattern and I just tried my hardest to clean anything to just get the water out of the steamer. It took around 15 minutes to use it all up in the end and I was getting hot and bothered by the end of it. I went round with a cloth and wiped around all the areas I had just cleaned and did notice the open door was slightly cleaner but whether that was from my elbow grease rubbing it, or the steamed had lifted some grease off, I don't know.
Wanted to clean the windows on the house so I got the other attachment out which resembles a hoover foot. It has a rubber blade on the end for window cleaning which is brilliant for getting rid of excess water. I first of all cleaned them with window cleaner and just wanted to steam them to get rid of any excess grease I had missed.
I started off well and managed to get one window looking clean and grease free. When I had finished it all, it did look very clean and sparkly. The attachment had done a great job cleaning the windows inside and when the weather is less rain and overcast clouds, I will definitely attempt the outside windows.
I would say that the steam cleaner hasn't lived up to it's expectations. I had tried cleaning a lot of things with this steam cleaner and haven't had much luck at all. I was tempted to give it back to my grandparents and tell them to return it but now, I will take it back there and clean their windows with it to show them it does have some good as it doesn't take long to clean them either.
I wasn't entirely happy with the product and would take it back if it hadn't cleaned the windows so well. It sounded like such a good product and I should have known from the £39.99 price tag that it wouldn't be doing what I expected.
Thanks for reading my review
Summary: steam cleaner by Morphy Richards with not enough power.
