I know, I know - I should have resisted! Hetty, of course, is the female version of the famous Henry which has been cleaning homes for over 20 years. The design is 100% the same as Henry, only the bin is pink with eye lashes and the "bowler hat" has Hetty written on it, with a little flower (which is not to add to the feminine side of it, but rather to convey that it is Eco). The specifications are just as simple as the design; you have a massive 9 litre bag in the bin (you can choose from cheap generic paper bags or Numatic "Hepaflo" bags), off which the hose exits as a nose, on top of that is the "bowler hat" which has a 1200W motor inside but on the Lo power setting only runs at 600W. To operate the machine is another piece of simplicity! You have a green ON/OFF rocker switch and for the power settings you have a rather annoying (in my opinion) spring loaded rocker switch. Let me explain: On start up Hetty will automatically select the Lo power mode and to select Hi, you have to press the red rocker switch, which will return to its previous position upon releasing it and a small light next to it will illuminate. This may seem fine but compared to the previous design of a standard rocker switch which controlled the power and powered up on the desired setting, this bothers me a little. Getting past that, the new Hetty does have a rather nice feature which slows down the start up of the motor to a smooth ascent, although when powered up it does seem slightly louder than the previous model - perhaps the motor is made with cheaper parts, that is entirely possible. Still, it performs just as well and never fails to impress. Talking about power, I suppose I'd better mention the power cord. It is a full 10 metres in length! Try getting that with your cheap store brand vacuum. There is no automatic rewind or anything here, just a simple "hand crank" on the top which you rotate to wind the cord back in manually. It may put some people off but it only takes about 5-6 seconds to fully wind the cord back so I don't see why it would. After all, it is one less thing to go wrong. Hetty comes with the standard Numatic straight suction floor tool which is equipped with two strips of brushes which extend upon pressing the pedal to engage hard floor cleaning and retract for carpet cleaning. That is connected to two solid metal pipes and a metal bent pipe which is, in turn, connected to the long 2.4 metre hose. The tools included are a crevice tool, upholstery tool (with removable stiff brushes) and a dusting brush. There is also the converter tube if you wish to use the tools straight onto the hose rather than using the extension tubes. There is a clip included on which you can clip one of the tools. I think it would be much better for there to be four clips so you could attach all three tools and the converter to the cleaner for easier use in large areas, though that would clutter the body of the vacuum so I can see why it has not been done as of yet. As for reliability and durability, I have never had a problem with Numatics and certainly never had one break down on me. Owning one is pure bliss and you will not regret spending a little more on one when in 10 years time you're still using your Numatic and your parsimonious friend is on their 5th Argos Value cylinder. I hope you've enjoyed reading my rather long winded review - I do apologise for that. Until next time, goodbye.
I bought this item about 18 months ago after having bad luck with a couple of other Vacuums. I was recommended a Henry by the cleaner at work and I thought 'That must be a man who knows his hoovers' so I went and to my local Argos but they were sold out of Henrys. However, Hetty was still available and, let's face it, she's miles prettier than Henry anyway so I bought it instead! The vacuum power is excellent and it is vastly superior to all other previous vacuums I've had. To give an indication of this, I'm not the most house proud person in the world and can be a bit lazy when it comes to housework. My carpet had got a bit grotty and I thought that I'd better pull my finger out and do something about it so I bought some carpet shampoo. As I was preparing to use the shampoo my previous vacuum had and so I went and got the Hetty. Once I got home I tried it out and it instantly lifted all the dirt that my previous vacuum couldn't! The difference between the cleaned and uncleaned areas was remarkable and almost like once of those adverts that you see during daytime TV! In fact it was so much easier to clean that I instantly cared more and have become much more house proud as a result. There is also an option to choose regular suction or a more high powered version but I find that regular always does the job and both settings are relatively quiet At first I thought that having a vacuum that requires bags would be a disadvantage because of the hype surrounding the likes of Dyson but I have found this to be no problem and the bags are incredibly easy to change. The only very, very slight downside to this product is the fact that once you've finished you've got to wind in the power cord instead of pressing a button so it comes in automatically but that's just being picky. *This review is my own work although I may post it elsewhere on the internet.
Ever Since i have brought Hetty i have loves doing my housework. It is a really good hoover and i am always showing it off when people have come and all of my family have gone out and brought one and they are all made up with it. She is prefect and cleand the carpet really well.
Weve had the fantastic Henry hoovers since I was little! I've grown up using them and we've never had any other. We are currently on our third in 18 years, however the second was only replaced because our dog chewed through the wire ... not due to any fault within the hoover! We could have just replaced the wire however it was broken in 4 various places and us being all girls, we had no clue. We had two of the old Henry Hoovers and we are now using the Hetty Numatic hover! It's the best we've had so far. The Hetty Hoover just doesn't sound the same when you call it a 'Hetty vacuum cleaner'. Design; .... The Hetty design is pink and black, rather than the red and black for the Henry. It really does give a womanly touch! However this isn't to say men shouldn't hoover up! The hoover is upright with wheels making it easy to pull around the house when you are changing rooms. The wire cable wraps up inside the hoover with a nozzle which you easily turn to pull in the cable. The cable pulls out easily itself when the hoover is pulled, avoiding the plug being pulled out! The cable length is very reasonable! I've never ran out of cable when hovering. However the cable is thin and does very easily get caught under doors and around objects. Movement; .... The hoover has a handy handle on the top for ease of movement and carry. The hoover isn't the ligthest! However it's not extremely heavy either. I wouldn't recommend letting a child try to lift it though as it is rather awkward. I hate having to move this hoover upstairs because it's quite irritating to bulk around! The very long stick and the weight and bulk of the hoover makes it awkward to carry around so if you're fortunate enough to be able to afford two hoovers, I would certainly recommend buying another for upstairs! Always make sure the cable is wound in before trying to move the hoover as it adds to the problems and the cable very easily gets caught. Using; .... The hoover has two settings, soft and high. There is a red switch button to press to alter the setting. When first turned on, the hoover will automatically switch on to the soft mode. A simple switch of the red button boosts up the power. The soft mode is generally for use on wooden floors and dusty surfaces, I always use the hi mode for carpets and rugs as the soft mode just doesn't do the job! The reason for the two modes is for power saving! This was advertised clearly when we bought this hoover. The switch was described as being for 'environmental friendly' use and I certainly think it's a great idea. The hoover is easy to use, there's a black cord looking pipe before the metal hose which enables that little extra stretch. The length of the hose is great, I can easily place the Hetty hoover at the bottom of the stairs and reach all the way up to the top step to hoover... it does take a little stretching for the top few steps though! There's an adapter which comes with the hoover which is best to use on cars and carpets, however we don't use ours much anymore because we've come so used to just using the pipe. The pipe all the way up to the hoover can be taken apart in various places which is useful when you get clogs! I've occasionally had to take the pipe apart and flush water down the pipe to get rid of clogs although this was when decorating and hovering up large pieces. The metal pipe part can be taken off to shorten the hose, and there is a diagonal shaped end to the plastic hose, perfect for getting into corners and into the sides of the carpet for dust and pieces! When using this hoover, take care when around socks! The hoover tends to love eating socks and pants! Emptying; .... The head is very easily taken off; there are two clips, one on either side of the head which you simply pull outwards. When releasing the hold, you can easily lift up the head with the handle. The head is rather heavy. This is best done outside as the hoover holds a lot of dust. Lifting up the head reveals the inside of the hoover, the bag is placed onto the pipe which extends a little into the inside of the hoover to hold the hoover bag in place. There are no clips or fastenings needed for placing the bag, it sits snugly over the pipe and is held in place as the bag becomes full. We have recently run out of hoover bags and we are now using the hoover without them, it probably isn't recommended but it works! The inside of the hoover can be easily cleaned out and emptied so we dont see any harm in not using a bag! The bag just makes it easier to empty and keeps the dirt compact. When not using a bag, the hoover can easily be tipped into the bin as is isn't very heavy without the head on! Price; .... When we bought our recent Hetty hoover, it cost us around £100 from the market although we didn't have time to look around as our last one was out of use and we needed a hoover fast! The prices are varied at different places; .... Comet - £89.99 Argos- £99.99 Argos also sell 30 hoover bags for £14.99 Overall; .... We love these hoovers! We will continue to use the Henry/Hetty hoovers as they have proven to be great for us! These hoovers work wonders and easily reach every corner and under the sofas! The price isn't too high and the hoovers last a long time! Other than being bulky and a little heavy, the layout of the hoover is great! Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao
I bought a hetty recently, after owning several hoovers. I have had a Miele, Panasonic and Vax. All of which have done their job. Owning 3 dogs, I was inclined to go for the Animal Dyson hoover which specialises in pet hair, but after looking at the price tag i decided againist it. The new versions of the Henry/Hetty's come with a small bag to carry the attachements in, as they are not stored in the actual hoover itself, which is a down fall. The hoover is also quite heavy and difficult if you want to hoover the stairs with. It does come with a very long power lead, which is helpful, but the suction hose could do with being slight longer. It terms of performance, the suction cannot be faulted and even with 3 dogs, it seems to be doing a great job. The new version also comes with a boost button, which is very helpful if you have long pile carpet like me. I only have it in one room, but the dog hair can be a little harder to get out, but the boost button solves this. Bags for the hetty are quite expensive, but i find they do last along time and can hold alot of dust etc. I would reccomend this Hoover for people that are able to lift heavy items, if you have any problems with your back etc it's not really for you.
This is the most amazing hoover I have ever used. My mum has a Hetty for the home and a Henry for her cleaning business. She bought me and my sister one each for christmas last year and I would never look back. Before using the Hetty I had a number of different hoovers including a dyson and none of them even come close to the Hetty! It picks up everything and makes my black carpet look like new. It also has lots of room in the bags, I have had it nearly a year now and have only changed the bag twice so far. My mums business Henry is kept in the boot of her car which gets banged about in there alot and still works absolutely perfectly, they are so durable. It also has the energy saving function which has less suction power but still sucks evrything up, and if you use the high power the suction is amazingly strong. The Hetty is great for girls with its pink design and will suit any home. It was very easy to set up and also eay to change the bags. Me, my mum and my sister all love our Hetty's and will never go back to another brand!
First there was Henry. Now Hetty. And what about George, the green hoover or even Charles, the blue one? We can't forget James now, can we. The yellow one. These hoovers are amazing. My niece loves her Hetty 'oover'. She has her own little Henry kids one and she enjoys being able to join in with the hoovering with my sister. It's great for hoovering the stairs, as it's easy and light to carry. Hetty hoover seems to pick everything up, even dog hair. She has two settings, high and low. Low is brilliant but once you put it on high, it's much better! All over hoovers seem to have lost their will to live but this seems to keep going and going. I'd seriously recommend this hoover, or any other of the range, to anybody. Some ladies might not like the pink, their partners might use the colour as an excuse not to use it! But don't forget, there's the red, green, yellow and blue one boys!
Recently picked up our Hetty hoover as the bagless upright hoover we had was too heavy for my wife meaning that the hoovering was only done once a week due to my working hours. Upon purchasing the hoover we opened up the box and got everything setup so we were ready to go and took a quick read to see if anything we needed to know and were impressed with what we read - made in the UK, energy saving set as standard usage for this vacuum but we realised that reading this was never the way to test it so we plugged this in (as silly as it sounds even the cable was well designed as it has a handle on the top so you can wind the cable back in quickly and easily) and flicked the switch to find a pleasant surprise in how quiet the hoover was on its energy saving standard setting. I flicked the switch to test the high power setting and although the noise went up in volume the carpet also came up as this is truly so much suction power (live in rented property where carpets not put in brilliantly but the old hoover never did this). The hoover is easily able to be moved around thanks to the wheels at the back for forwards and backwards movement whilst the front wheels are the ones that swivel to allow you freedom of movement. The hose is well put together and this whole package feels well made whilst not being heavy or cumbersome. Overall this is an excellent piece of kit that is fantastic value for money and makes your cleaning a lot easier not to mention deeper clean.
Now, I've had a run of bad-luck with vacum cleaners breaking-down after only a few months use - Dyson, Hoover, Pannasonic, Vax all as unreliable as the next.. that was until I met little Miss Pink-Hetty who is a small industrial miracle.. if real she'd make a super housewife - cleans all day long without a whimper or rest-break! It was chance brought us together, Mr Red-Henry was sold-out but let's just say it's nice to have a woman's touch about the house! Her 1200 watt motor is more than adequate to tackle any floor-surface; tile, wood, rugs or deep-pile carpet. I prefer the bag over bagless-cylinder too, a little old-fashioned maybe but it's a simple proven design with really very little compromise to convenience. Some other Hetty facts: Made in Great Britain - yay! Installed with 'AutoSave' low energy system - two power settings offer upto 50% energy reduction - ideal for light-tasks! Easily manouverable, stays upright even with the firmest tug - stores away neatly Low-noise level is another great Hetty bonus - I'm still traumatised from childhood experiences of Mum's Hoover making as much noise as a Jet-aircraft taking-off! Hose length is just right but no small hose-tool accessories, which I would never use anyway so don't miss not having. Easy to store away - the art of living in a flat is storage, Hetty fits into a standard broom-cupboard quite easily next to the ladder, golf clubs and ironing board. Changing the bag when full is very simple - the whole filter system too couldn't be easier to inspect via the lift-off head, er, I mean lid! With a power-rewind cable and as many hose accessories you could need I think Hetty has got the lot - and she's kinda cute too! Great value and vacuming is just more fun and reliable again! Cost £88 B&Q
