Advantages: Excellent performance, sturdy, reliable, good design
Disadvantages: Some may prefer the more masculine Henry- it's a matter of choice
I have a cat. He has a lot of fur. Judging by the amount of fur he leaves around the house, he should be bald, but no- that fur just keeps growing then shedding, growing then shedding. Cat fur is a challenge for even the toughest hoover, and we've been through a few; the usual pattern is that the hoover is fine for the first few uses, then starts to clog up a bit, getting slower and less efficient as time goes on. So this time we decided, based on a few word-of-mouth reviews, to try a Henry hoover. When we got to the shop and saw how cute the Hetty hoover was, we bought a Hetty instead.
This hoover looks great. It's cute and cheerful. I entirely accept that the fact I'm a woman might colour my judgement on this point, because it's definitely not the most macho hoover choice on the market. More importantly, this hoover works brilliantly. It has plenty of suction power (really good for pet fur and great for someone who suffers from allergies) and has an extra strength setting which is particularly good for rugs.
Hetty comes with plenty of attachments, so you can hoover the curtains or brush your carpet as you hoover, and it's very easy to swap the attachments around; just pull the nozzle off and swap it for whatever you need. It's also very easy to change the bags, something I was a bit worried about because it had been a while since I'd had anything but a bagless hoover. There are two clips on the side that just need undoing and the whole top of the hoover comes off. If you are particularly squeamish, you may feel like you're performing brain surgery on Hetty, but not to worry- it's very easy to put the top back on again. The bags are standard ones which are not too expensive and available quite easily (try somewhere like Argos or a hardware shop or just wherever you bought Hetty from in the first place). Best of all (for me), hoovering takes hardly any time at all, probably because the hoover has good suction. And it doesn't feel like quite so much of a chore when you're using something that a) looks like it was designed by Lego and b) smiles at you.
The only downside I can see is that this isn't a very macho hoover. It may take some work to persuade the male of the house to use it.
We purchased this hoover for just over a hundred pounds and it was well worth the money. It out-performs any hoover I've had in the past by a mile (including a much more expensive Dyson), and a year on from purchase the hoover is working just as well as when it was new. My carpets have never looked so good!
Summary: A really good hoover
