Advantages: Great suction, Good looking

Disadvantages: Overheating, cutting out, filter clogs

The Panasonic icon MC-E590 is the worse vacuum I have ever known. The first day I used the cleaner it cut out due to overheating. There is a filter that clogs up and stops the rotation of the filter wipers (no mention of this filter in the manual). The second motor in the beater bar sounded like a good idea but, the brushes stopped turning when I pushed the cleaner forward and started again after a delay. I have owned a Dyson & a electrolux cyclone prior to the icon and I have come to the conclusion that the designers haven't got it right yet with any of the new hi-tec design vac's. I think the traditional vac's with the dustbags are a better choice. Bagless & cyclones end up costing more money through repairs & new filters & belts.
WARNING AVOID THEM ALL UNTIL THEY GET IT RIGHT!!!!!

Bought this cleaner before noticing a bad write up on this site today. I found it works really well - the rotating brush at the front (manual says it cuts out if it jams on something as safety as it has its own beltless motor!) had a hard task ahead of it with a new wool carpet looking for its first clean, but picked loads of fluf and didn't cut out as other man described - excels at cleaning and picks up all that sock fluff, and embedded grit etc. that those horrid drag-along vacuums just ride over. The cylinder needed emptying at the end, but I guess our carpets hadn't had a proper clean as we have always had cylinder vacuums. This is the first upright I have had and could never go back to cylinder now. Stairs are a little bit fiddly, and hose doesn't stretch far and is a bit like a tug of war but accessories are great.
