Advantages: The best
Disadvantages: Cost and hassle
You may be surprised to hear this but vacuum cleaners can be a serious health hazard. The problem is that when you use them, the dirt etc which they store inside contains all kinds of nasty germs and bacteria, which happily reproduce in the dark warm environment of the bag. When you use them, some of these blighters escape through the holes in the bag (all bags are porous to let the air flow through). This is why you can smell a nasty smell when emptying the bag. It's also the reason why you notice fine dust on top of you wardrobes etc, the dust is blown into the air by your vaccum. The Dyson doesn't use a bag, but it does have a filter which means it suffers from the same problem. The answer to this problem is the Rainbow - it has no bag or filter, but uses water to filter all the dirt out of the air it sucks in. As the air is passed through the water all the nasty things stay there - because the damp dirt cannot fly out of the exhaust. This makes the Rainbow excellent for cleaning, but also great for people with dust allergies and respiratory problems such as Asthma and Hay Fever. It comes with all manner of attachments from shampooers to hard floor cleaners. There are two drawbacks, the price, it is over £1000 and it is quite cumbersome and difficult to setup. The good news is that you find you don't need to clean as often because it gets rid of all the dirt and dust, whereas ither vacuums take in the large pices of dirt, and just blow them out of the exhaust as smaller particles, which you can't see until they land. If you have the money I would definately recommend getting one of these.
