Advantages: sucks up well
Disadvantages: too heavy
Our last vacuum cleaner died a couple of months ago and we had to buy a new one. We have a dog so wanted one that would pick up the hairs as well so my other half decided to buy this one from Argos.
It is the Russell Hobbs 13944 Pet Cyclone. It costs £129.99 in Argos. The cleaner is upright and it is a white colour with some black dalmation type of spots on the front at the bottom where it sucks up the dirt. It says it has a 2000 watts motor which is quite powerful. the length of the hose is 3m. and the bin on it is capable of holding 2.5 litres of dust.
It comes with some handy tools, a crevice tool, dusting brush and turbo tool and it has a pipe extension. These all fit into the back of the cleaner.
Now to using it. So far it sounds really a nice cleaner but there are a couple of downsides to it. The first being that it is really heavy, I can't lift it to take it upstairs so my other half has to do that for me. Also when you do manage to lift it the front bit hangs down, where as on our old one (which was brilliant, should have got the same kind) it stayed in position until you clicked something with your foot to let the front bit drop down and become flexible.
The second downside is that we have a rug in the living room that is quite shaggy with long fibres. Our old cleaner used to run over the top quite easily but this new one I can't get it to move on the rug at all, it just stays in one place and I can't push it or pull it as its a) too heavy and be just doesn't want to move on the fibres. So again other half now has to clean the living room or it wouldn't get done.
In the dining room we have wooden flooring (varnished floorboards) and a short haired rug. The cleaner works nicely over this and I can use it my self (yay!!). It has a good suction on it and picks up the dog hairs plus I do a lot of sewing and it picks up the threads easily from the floor.
In the kitchen we have lino flooring and it cleans this quite well, I do find it hard to get right into the edges of the room with it though so I usually have to sweep anything out to the middle and suck it up ( you could use the tool but the broom is quicker).
As for the stairs, its another thing I can't manage due to the weight of the thing. I can do may be the first four or five stairs but after that I can't reach. Other half picks it up and does them as he goes up but its too heavy for me to do this.
The lead is quite long, may be not quite as long as our old one but it stretches enough to be able to clean the hall where we don't have an electrical socket to plug it in.
Was it a good buy? In my opinion no it wasn't as I am limited on what I can use it for but on the other hand my other half now has to do the rooms I can't do so may be it was a good buy after all lol.
