I had never really associated Siemens with vacuum cleaners, but this model came with my latest flat and, although basic in appearance, it works a treat.
It is clear that compact is the name of the game - the main body of the unit could fit inside my small aircraft carry-on suitcase. That makes it very easy to drag around. This is helped by the extendable electricity cable, which will pull out from and go back into the body unit much like a car seatbelt (except that once you pull it out, it locks at that length and you need to give it a gentle extra tug to get the cord to retract, which is great as it means that the cord is not pulling against you as you hoover). Moreover, the business end of the cleaner - metal pipe and cleaning head - is detachable from the body and the metal part slides into itself to about half its length, to take up even less space.
The neat feature with this vacuum cleaner is that there is a wheel on the unit body which can adjust the motor output. Not only is this extremely green, but you can also slash your running costs, since for most surfaces, only half of the wattage is required to get enough cleaning suction, which also makes it much quieter. Moreover, the adjustability comes into its own when dealing with rugs, since too high suckage and you're not cleaning the rug so much as picking up one corner of it and moving it about on the floor!
However, one let-down to this model is that even with a fresh bag, there is just a hint of a hovering smell / sense of dustiness which clearly means that not all of the dust is being collected in the bag and some is escaping back into the room. While this issue is not unique to this type of vacuum cleaner, it is worth bearing this in mind in case you have any allergies which might mean you would need a more efficient model.
Overall, this is a neat, compact unit that gets the cleaning done to a good standard, with the plus that you can adjust suction for rugs (and reducing noise and electricity bills!)
