My Mum bought the Tesco VC207 for my Grandad as he has a small bungalow and was finding it hard to use his heavier, stand up vacuum cleaner. I do a lot of cleaning at my Grandad's and had told my Mum how difficult it was to manoeuvre a larger hoover around his small rooms which have a lot of furniture in them. Initially she just had a quick look around and wasn't intending to buy a new cleaner immediately but after seeing the VC207 in Tesco she decided to buy it for him from our local Tesco Extra. I have since bought the hoover myself as I've moved to a small rented property and don't need a bigger, more expensive, machine. The vacuum cleaner cost about £18 when my Mum bought it, however at the moment it's just over £20, there's lots of offers on at Tesco usually though and I've seen it a couple of times at a reduced price. The VC207 is available in larger Tesco stores and online at Tesco Direct.
The vacuum cleaner is made from a tough, grey and blue plastic; I wouldn't say it was the best looking of machines but certainly looks more expensive than the price my Mum paid. Inside the box is the main body the hoover which sits on the floor with a fairly long grey hose which attaches to a grey rectangular panel which houses the suction mechanism. As the hoover is cheap it hasn't got a selection of attachments, just the one which is a small brush, perfect for the edges of rooms and tricky places like skirting boards and ceiling corners.
The hoover only has a small capacity of 1.5 litres, so it's not ideal for anyone who has a lot of floor space, however for small properties though I have to say it's ideal. The vacuum is very lightweight meaning it is easy to move around, and get in all the corners, the head on the vacuum is ideal for vacuuming right up to the edges of rooms and under furniture. The machine is very easy to pick up as it's so light making it perfect for anyone with problems lifting, it also makes it a lot easier to store as it can be lifted pretty much anywhere and fits perfectly into even small cupboards. The small size does mean though that the bag will have to be emptied more than usual, the hoover did come with three bags though and I should imagine that these will last me a good six months.
As I said before, the vacuum in incredibly easy to use as it's so lightweight. I've found it picks up bits well on my carpet but is also great for the kitchen floor and the hoover has great edge cleaning I can get all the crumbs from the corners just under my kitchen cabinets. The machine does struggle with bigger bits to pick up but on the whole the suction is really effective and my floors are kept looking lovely and clean. Our flat is above a shop and I also find the hoover really good for use on the stairs as again, it can get into all the edges.
I would recommend the VC207 for anybody with a small property as it gets the cleaning done quickly with minimal effort. It's especially good for older people, my Grandad finds using his vacuum really easy now because it's much more lightweight and has no trouble moving it around from room to room. It's cheap and cheerful, it's not the best vacuum in the world but it's £20 and for that price I think you'd be hard pushed to find a better small vacuum cleaner.
I live in small rented accommodation and when the previous vacuum cleaner broke, the letting agency provided this one. The vacuum cleaner comes packaged in a white and blue cardboard box labelled 'Tesco Value', typical to the brand. According to the Tesco Direct website, this product costs £16.99 - this is in my eyes incredibly cheap for a vacuum cleaner.
The first thing I should probably note about this product is that it is tiny! This brings with both advantages and disadvantages. The vacuum cleaner is incredibly lightweight, so you won't get tired after using it extensively, as can happen with some of the more bulkier models. As the product is so small and comprised of so few components, assembly was relatively easy. The vacuum cleaner came with only one extra component, to make it easier when vacuuming near the skirting boards. This is made of the same grey plastic as the majority of the vacuum cleaner, and is easily fitted onto the end of the tube.
However, the hoover bag is small, a mere 1.5L capacity. The packaging for this product stated that it included 3 bags - I am fairly certain we only received 2. And even though the vacuum cleaner does come with 2 bags already provided, I can see us needing to buy quite a few over the next year - we have been using this vacuum cleaner for just over a month and the bag is near full. According to the Tesco Direct website, 5 hoover bags for this model cost £3.47. Compared to a some bigger capacity hoover bags out there, this is a higher price to pay for smaller bags, which will be used more often. This product comes with a 'dust bag full' indicator to let you know when the dust bag should be replaced - it will be interesting to see whether this work accurately when the bag is indeed full.
The vacuum cleaner does manoeuvre well, and is in this respect fairly easy to use. It has a reasonable suction power on both carpet and laminate floors, when compared to other vacuum cleaners out there - although is by no means a superior model in this department.
The vacuum cleaner itself is comprised of grey and bright blue plastic. It has an overall rather cheap and cheerful look - although what else you'd expect for this price I can't imagine. This doesn't particularly bother me as long as it gets the job done, however those of you out there who prefer a more aesthetically pleasing model might be better off looking elsewhere. As it's so small and made up of plastic, it's easy to wipe down with a cloth should you need to.
This vacuum cleaner is also fairly noisy, although not overly so. It also has a rather distinct smell when in use - comparable to either a shoe shop (according to OH) or a new car (my thought). However, the smell does seem to have lessened now compared to when we had first begun using it.
Overall, this vacuum cleaner does get the job done. While it may not perform to the same standard as other, more expensive models, it is fine for the relatively small floor space I have to vacuum currently.
