Having a 3 year old, plus 2 cats who love to leave us presents in the living room my carpet really needed a good clean. I decided to borrow my brothers Vax cleaner as it is an upright and my old vax was in the shed and I didn`t want to have to dig it out.
He gave me the basic instructions on how to use it but had lost the manual so I had to figure most of it out myself!
==How did I clean my carpet?==
Basically I filled up the clean water tank with hot water, this is quite a big tank and sits in the upright part of the vax. I then added the vax solution to the solution tank which fits in underneath the clean water tank.
On the handle is an on/off button a brush and soap button, to begin you need to put the soap and brush set to on then you will find a blue trigger underneath the handle keep that pressed in and press on to start the vax. Then move the vax back and forward you will see the soap on the carpet, once you have done that release the trigger and move back and forward the carpet so that the dirty water gets sucked up in to the vacuum.
At the base of the vax is the dirty water tank, you can actually see the water going into the tank and wow was the water dirty! Also there are 2 beater brushes which groom the pile of the carpet.
To empty the tank I pressed the release button then at the same time pulled the tank tab up and it comes forward so that I could then remove the tank and empty the contents.
After emptying the contents I rinsed it out with clean water and also checked that filter was not blocked. I also was also able to clean the bottom of the base as it comes away from the vax, again I just rinsed under warm water.
The vax also comes with a hose and tools that can be used on the stairs and sofa but I did not use the tools so cannot comment on them.
==What do I think?==
This is a very heavy machine it weighs 11.4kg, I found it very hard to move back and forward and by the time I had finished the carpet my back was aching.
The other thing with this vax is it is very noisy, a lot nosier than my old vax cleaner or even my current vacuum. My cats hated the noise and made a quick exit through the cat flap!
It cost me £4 for the vax solution which I purchased in Tesco`s, I didn`t use much of the solution so this will come in handy in the future.
Did the vax get my carpet clean? Yes it did and I can actually see the pattern in the carpet!
I washed the carpet this morning and the carpet was wet, it is now nearly dry which I am really pleased about.
The next time I decide to wash my carpet I will probably dig my old cleaner out from the shed as it is a lot lighter than this one.
My brother paid £140 last year for this vax from Amazon.
I have recently bought the Vax rapide carpet cleaner. I got it from Amazon for 150.00. I believe it is available for less than this, however I had some amazon vouchers, so got it from there. I have cleaned every carpet in the house, and didn't realise how dirty they were!
In the box it comes in several parts, however assembly is easy and pretty self explanatory, however the instructions which come with it are extremely good. Once assembled, it is easy to use. It has a separate tank for the soap solution and the water, and the soap can stay in the machine if not all used. I filled my soap bottle when I got it, and am about half way down it, despite having shampooed everything that stands still! The machine has the normal carpet shampooer bit, with rotating brush bars and a strong suction, so the carpet is almost dry when you have finished shampooing it. Once you have gone over the carpet once, you can then turn the soap off so only clean water comes out, allowing you to rinse the carpet. This is another advantage of the seperate soap bottle, as without it you would have to throw your clean water (with soap mixed in it) away and refill the bottle to rinse the carpet.
It came with a bottle of vax AAA soap, which I believe you can get from around 4.00, however I am still on my original bottle.
The upholstery tool is also very powerful, and allows you to clean the stairs and sofas etc. The hose and cable are long enough to do the entire stairs without unplugging it and moving it.
One of the main reasons for us getting this is I suffer from allergies (all kinds of pollen, animals and house dust) and it was getting to the point that no matter how much I heevered the carpets I was still getting sneezy, itchy and wheezy. Now I have done the entire house I am much better. I believe the Vax AAA soap has an anti allergy additive (infact that is apparently what AAA stands for) so that could be helping too. The water thast came out of my carpets was a dark grey sludge, Urghh! No wonder they were making me ill! And there are just 2 adults and no animals in our house.
The machine is quite noisy to use, however I don't feel this is excessive being as it has a pump for the solutions, a vacuum pump and the rotating bars. Noise s quite subjective though, and I haven't used any of its competitors, so I wouldn't know if it is excessive or just normal. It is more noisy than my dry vacuum cleaner, but it is doing more so I would expect that.
It's not all a bed of roses though. There are some down sides to this device:
It is quite a big and bulky device to store once it is all assembled, especially with the upholstery tool.
Because it is an all in one, upright style cleaner, you have to move all the water when shampooing the carpet, this makes it extremely heavy to use. The water bottles (Clean and dirty) are both easy to remove from the machine and seal when you do so, so it is not too difficult to get upstairs, as I take everything off it first, however when you use it, you really get a sweat up. Saves taking out gym membership though, and I have developped a whole new set of muscles since we got it! Seriously though, if you aren't fairly fit and strong then the orange bin style vax would probably be better for you.
You do need to give the carpet a thorough vacuum before using, and it does pull loads of extra gunge out of your carpet. This is good, however I find the dirty water bottle and bits that the dirty water goes through on the way to the dirty water bottle takes quite a lot of cleaning after use. Again, this is something I am prepared to live with for the clean carpets.
Overall a good machine, but you should certainly be aware of the weight with water, and the fact that you need to be quite fit in order to use it.
I have recently used this carpet cleaner as we have a house full of cream carpets and with a toddler and a new puppy they were all starting to look very tired even though the carpets were only laid in the last year.
I went for the Vax based on other recommendations and also ashamedly on the name as both myself and family members have had Vax items in the past and have never been let down.
Once again this was a brilliant item from Vax. The cleaner is so easy to use and unlike other cleaners it also dries the carpets afterwards which means you don't have to wait hours before you can tread on it and also means it won't stretch your carpet.
The machine was easy to put together but once together it is quite large and you do need a decent amount of storage space in order to store it.
It is obvious from the way the machine is labelled where the water and solution goes and it has clearly marked maximum levels. This means that you don't need to revert back to the instructions every time you use it.
It has a handy hand tool attachment which again is simple to use and means you can give the more stubborn stains a good scrub.
Each time I use the cleaner I can see when emptying that amount of dirt it is removing from sometimes what seems a fairly clean carpet.
The downsides to this cleaner would be the storage space required and it is quite awkward to move from upstairs to dowstairs due to its size so I wouldn't recommend to any one who is infirm or weak.
All in all though a really good cleaner which has impressed me.
The Vax Rapide XL V-027 wet and dry vacuum cleaner has a 750 watt motor and holds 0.98 of a gallon of water in it wet mode.
It comes with just under thirty feet of cord which makes it ample for most homes. You can use it downstairs without having to unplug it and change to another socket, and then do the same upstairs.
It features a rotating brush which is very effective in dry cleaning mode. This machine actually has two motors. One operates the cleaning bar and lifts out dirt and the powerful vacuum allows carpets to dry quickly.
This machine does what it says it does, but I was not impressed with it as a carpet cleaner in the wet mode. It was fiddly and awkward to clean up afterwards and the whole machine is quite heavy to carry around.
It took me longer to clean the thing up than it did to actually wash the carpets.
This machine comes complete with tools and at around £139 it is reasonable value. VAX AAA cleaning solution is recommended for this machine and I must admit that I found this effective and it had a pleasant fragrance.
This is a good all purpose carpet cleaner and washer and regular use of a machine like this helps to prolong the life of your carpets, brightens the colours, and removes pollen and dust which may remain deep in the fibres of your carpets.
I wouldn't buy this particular machine again as I have seen how much more efficient a dedicated carpet washer is. It seems that the VAX Rapide Carpet Washer a friend owns, cost around £89 and is a better buy. You have to buy a separate vacuum cleaner but the two seem to work better as individual appliances.
i bought this vacuum for the ease of use, and i was not dissappointed, it is so simple and easy 2 use, after washing my carpets the stains dissappeared, it also looked a lot brighter, with 4 children i needed something that could clean well and would be simple to use.. if that is what you are looking for then i recommend the vax vo27 rapide xl. the down side is that it is heavy to carry upstairs and you do have to empty the dirty water and fill with clean water a few times.
The main reason i bought this vax rapide was because i have a young child and carpets and upholstery in lighter colours,i know they don't mix well but i wouldn't swap either. After months of wiping my sofa and my rugs with spot cleaners to remove mushed in banana , jam , sandwiches etc i decided something needed to be done..And rather than cover everything in plastic i decided to buy this rather nifty cleaner..
It is fantastic thats all i can say i purchased mine thinking it wouldn't be a good investment but i'm happy to admit i was wrong.
It is bagless and can be used wet or dry, has the abiity to hold 4L Clean water in the tank and 3.7L dirty water in the tank
This model is a deep cleaning, versatile upright carpet washing system designed foryou to be able to wash your carpets and sofa's as and when they need at it .
The wash head has contra-rotating brush bars for really deep down dirt removal. Its powerful suction allows carpets to dry quickly, iIt is ideal for large carpeted areas.
It's on-board hose with wash tool attachment, and large capacity auto mix cleaning system makes it easily adapted for stairs, cars and upholstery cleaning .
I think the only downside is that it may be a little heavy for some people to move it about easily..Its not heavy but when filled with water it may be a little bit more awkward,When fully assembled you are no longer able to replace in to its box which means you have to keep it stored ready for use which isn't a problem if you have plenty of storage space, lastly you can not clean edge to edge you have to do by the skirting edges with the onboard tools..
Now for the technical bits..
It comes with a 7.8m Power cable with 10m max reach,a twin rotating brush bar which gives you a deeper clean, also comes with a 2.5m Flexible hose.
If you have light color carpets ,furniture , pets or children then this could be the cleaner for you.
I paid just under £150 which is a better price than having to replace carpets or furniture just because it looks a bit grubby..
Well worth the money in my opinion.
