Having a 3 year old, plus 2 cats who love to leave us presents in the living room my carpet really needed a good clean. I decided to borrow my brothers Vax cleaner as it is an upright and my old vax was in the shed and I didn`t want to have to dig it out.

He gave me the basic instructions on how to use it but had lost the manual so I had to figure most of it out myself!

==How did I clean my carpet?==

Basically I filled up the clean water tank with hot water,this is quite a big tank and sits in the upright part of the vax. I then added the vax solution to the solution tank which fits in underneath the clean water tank.

On the handle is an on/off button a brush and soap button, to begin you need to put the soap and brush set to on then you will find a blue trigger underneath the handle keep that pressed in and press on to start the vax. Then move the vax back and forward you will see the soap on the carpet, once you have done that release the trigger and move back and forward the carpet so that the dirty water gets sucked up in to the vacuum.

At the base of the vax is the dirty water tank, you can actually see the water going into the tank and wow was the water dirty! Also there are 2 beater brushes which groom the pile of the carpet.

To empty the tank I pressed the release button then at the same time pulled the tank tab up and it comes forward so that I could then remove the tank and empty the contents.
After emptying the contents I rinsed it out with clean water and also checked that filter was not blocked. I also was also able to clean the bottom of the base as it comes away from the vax, again I just rinsed under warm water.

The vax also comes with a hose and tools that can be used on the stairs and sofa but I did not use the tools so cannot comment on them.


==What do I think?==

This is a very heavy machine it weighs 11.4kg, I found it very hard to move back and forward and by the time I had finished the carpet my back was aching.

The other thing with this vax is it is very noisy, a lot nosier than my old vax cleaner or even my current vacuum. My cats hated the noise and made a quick exit through the cat flap!

It cost me £4 for the vax solution which I purchased in Tesco`s, I didn`t use much of the solution so this will come in handy in the future.

Did the vax get my carpet clean? Yes it did and I can actually see the pattern in the carpet!
I washed the carpet this morning and the carpet was wet, it is now nearly dry which I am really pleased about.

The next time I decide to wash my carpet I will probably dig my old cleaner out from the shed as it is a lot lighter than this one.
