I have owned this vac for about a year now, it is a bagless budget cylinder vac that is suitable for those of us that own pets. It has a high power rating which is adjustable using a rotary dial on the top of the cleaner.
It is manufactured from cheap grade plastic, and I find that the body picks up scratches quickly, as it can be awkward to pull round furniture and doorways. It has no protective bumper strips, and can remove the paint from door frames. It has a very long hose which is useful for reaching up to the ceiling, and gives it a long overall cleaning reach of about 9.5 metres. However the hose feels cheap and is not particularly crush proof
The Power 6 pet comes with 2 large floor heads consisting of a full size turbo brush, and a standard combination floorhead, it also comes with the 3 standard small tools and a mini turbo tool. I find the turbo brush floorhead rather a poor quality affair that is noisy and rattly when in use. It does seem to remove most pet hair, but gives the impression that its just skimming the surface of the carpet rather than properly agitating it. The standard floorhead is a low budget, mediocre quality item that makes hard work of cleaning a carpet, and is worse for people who are tall, as it becomes harder to push, the more vertical the wand is held. It is more suited to cleaning hard floors, and does not effectively remove pet hair from carpet. The three cleaning tools are also cheap quality but serve their purpose. The mini turbo tool is satisfactory but must be used on higher suction power to stop the brush from slowing down when used on the sofa. It is easy to clean and unblock, which it will need to be if used to pick up a lot of pet hair/long human hair/ and fluff.
It has an all metal wand, which friction fits to the handle and all accessory heads, and is telescopically extendable. The small tools clip to a caddy which attaches to the wand, but they can be knocked off easily, so are better off stored separate from the cleaner.
The vac has a large 3 litre bin, and works via a single cyclonic separation system, where the dirt is drawn into a small chamber inside the main bin, and spun round this chamber until it is thrown out of the chamber via a hole in the top of it. Whilst this works quite well for the larger particles of dirt, and pet hair, which get thrown out of the cyclone chamber into the main bin, the finer dust gets drawn into the perforated suction pipe in the centre of the inner separation chamber, and get trapped by the pre motor filter which is located in the top of the bin lid.
The vac also has a pleated post motor exhaust filter located behind a removable grille on the back of the machine. This filter is a HEPA filter which traps any dust that gets through the pre-motor filter, and also absorbs the carbon dust created by the motor itself.
The machine has a small light on the top, next to the power selector dial, which lights up red if the machine detects a blockage in the system, or a restriction to the airflow. The usual reason this light flashes on and off is when blocking the end of the hose during normal vacuuming. If the light remains on all the time, its usually because the pre-motor filter is clogged with fine dust that escapes the cyclone chamber, or the perforated pipe in the centre of the cyclone chamber has become covered with long hair or other detritus. The cyclone chamber also gets blocked if large items such as socks or toys are sucked up.
To get to the filter you have to remove the top lid of the bin and lift the orange circular filter out of its housing.
This pre-motor filter will get blocked fairly often, as this cleaner is not multi-cyclonic, but its easy to get to and easy to wash out. Removing the perforated suction pipe from the cyclone chamber is easy too, but can be annoying if it gets blocked frequently by long hair, thus stopping the suction and putting on the red blockage light.
The pre-motor filter can be washed as often as needed, but eventually it will start to become dog eared and tatty, and you will have to replace it. Replacements are available from Vax's online shop, and they cost about £20. The post motor filter is not washable and when its clogged it too must be replaced.
So all in all, this is a cheap and cheerful budget vac, for those who don't want to spend out on a Dyson, or just cant afford one, and it shows in the build quality. You get what you pay for with this vac. It will do the job, but you will have to maintain it, and clean the filter regularly, or it will end up overheating the motor, which will continually keep cutting out and you will have to keep waiting for it to reset itself, until the point it burns itself out. So don't ignore the red light, or you will end up wasting your time, and ruining the cleaner.
If you don't like the idea of regular filter maintenance and cleaning out the bin and inner cyclone chamber, then I'd suggest you don't purchase this vacuum cleaner.
As the owner of two very hairy cats (one looks a bit like a ball of fluff at times) I decided to buy a specific pet vacuum cleaner the last time I needed to replace my old one which had sadly given up the ghost. I researched a few different brands and eventually bought this Vax C89-P6N-P Power 6 Pet which was on special offer at the time. On using it I was especially interested to see if it would really be any different from a "normal" vacuum cleaner.
I purchased the vacuum cleaner from my local Curry's and then brought it home in the car. It was not that heavy and the box it came in was quite compact so it easily fitted into the boot of my car. On opening it, the box contained the vacuum cleaner itself, the extension tube and the hose which needed to be slotted in to each other, and then a number of different attachments which I will discuss later.
The Vax website states that the vacuum cleaner has been designed with pet owners in mind and is compact and powerful with an antibacterial H12 HEPA filter to help reduce pet-related odours and allergens. Features include:
- Single cyclone technology--less clogging and maintenance
- Powerful performance 2200W / 320AW
- TurboTool and TurboBrush--great for homes with pets
- Large 3L capacity
- Variable power
- 7m cord and 2.5m hose
- Free 2 year Vax warranty for complete peace of mind
After setting up the vacuum cleaner I used it for the first time and immediately noticed that the suction really was very powerful. There is a red adjustable dial on the front of the cleaner which can be adjusted to reduce or increase the power and when it is on full the cleaner almost pulls the carpet up! However although it is very powerful it is also quite lightweight and I have not had any problems maneuvering it around or carrying it up and down the stairs.
The different attachments that come with the vacuum cleaner include a special turbo brush and a smaller turbo brush for the stairs, an upholstery tool and a crevice tool. I tend to mainly use the turbo brush and do find that this is very good at picking up cat hairs that may be hidden in the carpet
The vacuum cleaner is bagless and as you clean you can see all of the dirt and pet hair filling up the container which is really quite worrying when you see how much there is and what a horrible colour it looks. However I guess this shows how well the cleaner is working! It is very easy to empty the container and also to clean the filter and one thing that I have found positive is that it is also easy to put it all back together again as with previous vacuum cleaners I have often found this difficult.
The lead on the vacuum cleaner is quite long and I find that I can reach a few rooms at a time using it without having to unplug the cleaner. It also has a very fast auto rewind button which is useful and means that you don't have the lead hanging around everywhere when you are storing it. As you can compact the extension hose the overall size of the cleaner can be made quite small and it can easily fit into a cupboard to store it without taking up to much room.
Overall I would recommend this vacuum cleaner. It is difficult to say if it really works any better than a non "pet specific" cleaner but it definitely does work effectively and has been very powerful and reliable for me. It costs about £99.99 but is often on offer in various shops and can normally be bought for about £70.
It's not very often that I only have positive things to say about a Vacuum cleaner but the Vax power 6 is my favourite yet!
We live in a small flat and don't have too much space to store a large upright vacuum cleaner so this cylinder size is perfect for us. One thing I really love about this vacuum is the length of the flex, I find that I only need to change the plug once during my flat sweep as the flex is really long as is the hose making cleaning time takes less time!
I manage to clean two bedrooms, the lounge, kitchen, hall and bathroom before the vacuum needs to be changed and it really does pick up everything. To remove dirt from the device you simply remove the cylinder, press a button and that's the dirt gone. I find it helpful to hold open a black bin bag, placing the cylinder inside and pressing the evacuate button, as I have a dust allergy I like to make sure the process is quick and simple.
There is a handy light on top of the machine that alerts you to a blockage, you can remove the hose easily by nipping the ends together to check inside and the filter is easy to remove to check underneath for and large items that may have got stuck.
The accessories that come with the Vacuum are great as there is one to suit everything, hard floor, corners, curtains, I even do my sofa with the tiny one!
I can't rate this vacuum highly enough if like me you have a small living space and a very hairy pet!
This is a fabulous hoover for picking up dog hair.I have two German Shepherds, who shed terribly on a daily basis, which means that I have to hoover the house at least once a day!!! The Vax Power 6 has excellent suction and has cut down on the amount of time I spend hoovering as it collects all hair etc quickly and effectively. It is easy to empty the easy to manoeuvre around the house. Would definitely recommend this hoover.
This hoover is fab - small, compact, good looking but really powerful. It picks up cat hairs even when not on full power and the additional turbo brush can be used on carpet to pick up any stubborn pet hairs. However there's nowhere on board to store this and the other additional tool- they tend to fall off the hoover when using it, which is a little irritating. However this is the only downside with the hoover. It really is powerful, I haven't had to turn it to full power yet. The cord is really long so you don't need to constantly unplug and plug it in again to do the whole house. It's also very lightweight, so easy to carry up and down stairs. It's also no effort to push around, hoovering is no longer such a chore! Even emptying it is easy and simple. It's also easy to assemble with a clear, easy to understand user-guide.
Easy to assemble, lightweight and powerful. This vacuum does what it says on the tin, its lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and cleans up the cat hair better than our previous bag less hoover.
I haven't had this hoover long probably only just over a month but i have been really happy with the results its given me so far. Putting it together was easy but i wish the instructions explained what all the extensions are better because there was at least 7 and i still have no idea what 2 are for.
From the first use i noticed the difference in my carpet and if i use the turbo brush along with the full power setting it gets dirt off the carpet you wouldn't even know was there. I no longer see any pet hairs on my dark rug or settees and my sister who has dog allergy has noticed the difference massively. Its very easy to carry from room to room i just wish the plug lead was a little longer because i have noticed its shorter than my last two have been but because of the way it cleans my carpet its a small price to pay.
Before i got this hoover i was steam cleaning my carpet every month but so far its no where near dirty enough to need doing even though the kids are trying their best to make it dirty enough. I really do recommend this hoover its absolutely the best one i've ever owned
First impressions of opening the box is the look of the vacuum, it is a very sleek design and comes with various attachments;
3)Combination floor head.
The turbo brush is good on carpets, it picks up very well and the combination floor head is excellent on laminate floors. The power can be adjusted according to which floor type you need to vacuum which is a handy feature. It is also easy to use on stairs, the power cable is very long so no need to unplug. It reaches the top step with little effort. The vacuum is powerful but small, which is great for storage. The telescopic extension tube extends to a good height, so great for people who are tall as I am. It is very easy to manoeuvre and is lightweight.
There is a 2 year guarantee with this vacuum.
I would highly recommend the Vax C89-P6N-P Power 6 Pet to others.
As a member of the "Vax Voice" testing team, I was sent the Power 6 Pet to test and write a review of my experience with using it.
I was excited when my parcel was delivered and I opened the box immediately to find quite a few little wrapped up pieces, so I thought it would take me ages to set up. However this was not the case. Inside there are lots of attachments that all serve their own purpose and do not have to be used all at the same time. Plus the smaller tools have their own place to be stored on the vacuum itself in a little caddy. The accessories included; Dusting Brush, Crevice Tool, Upholstery Tool, Turbo Tool, Extension Tube with Tool Caddy, Turbo Brush, Hard Floor tool and a Turbo Tool Connector. Although this sounds confusing, you get an illustrated user guide to explain all these parts and how to use them. So, to set up there was no fiddly filters or parts to screw in, all I had to do was attach the hose into the vacuum, the extension tube to the hose, and choose the tool and I was ready to go.
My house is a mix of carpet, laminate and tiles, and so this vacuum is perfect for me. As I started with my carpeted living room, I used the turbo brush. I pulled out the power cord (which has a very fast auto rewind button), plugged it in and pressed the on/off button. Just as I was about to start, I noticed a little dial by the on/off button which controls the power from min to max. I put it to max and began to clean my carpet. After using a lot of effort to run the turbo brush over my carpet, I actually had to turn the power dial down slightly as it was incredibly powerful and was lifting up the carpet itself! With the dial set at about 3/4, the brush just glided so easily over the carpet and picked up every last crumb, hair, fluff and dust etc, even those that have embedded deep into the carpet pile, without having to keep going back and forth over the same place. This was really impressive and made my carpets look so much cleaner compare to my usual vacuum cleaner.
Next I switched to the hard floor tool and tried it on the laminate and tiled floors. My usual vacuum always seemed to push the dirt and dust around on the hard floors so I usually just used a dustpan and brush. The hard floor tool attachment was amazing and made my floors so clean even right into the corners. Again it glided across with ease and did not scratch or miss any dirt.
After using this for little over a week, I am still really impressed by this small but incredibly powerful vacuum cleaner. It's quite light to manoeuvre, has an array of accessories included and does exactly what you want and need it to do. For a price of around £100 with a free two year guarantee from Vax, I am very happy to recommend this to anyone who is struggling to pick up pet hairs and general dirt, and who have multi floor types in their house. I am convinced you will not be disappointed. Well done Vax!
