This hoover has great suction for one room then over heats and cuts out. You have to wait at least half and hour to be able to switch it on again to hoover next room. I've only had this vaccume cleaner for 6 months and despite constant ringing up to VAX the problem has yet to be sorted.
This Vax C91-PF1-B-T (bit of a mouthful!) seemed like the perfect vacuum cleaner for about 6 months before it started to die on me. I've now had this hoover for around a year and its performance is very poor and disappointing for a product you'd expect to last a bit longer.
I'll begin with the good points. The hoover is compact and easy enough to store if you don't have a lot of room, although the hose can be a bit awkward to put away as it springs out of place and I find myself tripping over it in the garage! It is relatively cheap for a hoover but for me it didn't last very long so I would rather spend more money to get a reliable vacuum. It is lighter than an upright but still quite bulky and awkward to carry around. The button on the back which makes the cord recoil is a good feature but beware of the plug as it can fly around and hit your ankles. The two buttons on the back, one for the power and once to recoil the cord, are large so simple to press but I get them mixed up as the symbols on them are the some colour as the rest of the button. The part where the dirt collects is simple to empty, the parts come apart easily and you can just pull the dust off with your fingers. However, make sure you've read the instructions beforehand to avoid a messy floor!
And now the bad. The vacuum is pretty much useless to me after a year. Now I can get two rooms out of it at the most before it dies mid cleaning. I have to leave it, sometimes for days, before it turns on again and I can complete my hoovering. Not only is this time consuming and annoying but a complete waste of money as I would expect a vacuum cleaner to last me over a year. The suction is also terrible. I end up using the hose by itself because suction is so bad with the extension it is a waste of time. This takes loads of time to do and means you have to get on your hands and knees to do a job that can be done much quicker with less effort with another product.
It really is awful and doesn't pick up anything! Whether it's a big dust bunny or a tiny bit of fluff the hoover just goes over it and moves it about without sucking it up, the complete opposite of what a hoover is meant to do! Also, I decided to change from an upright to a pull-along as the upright was heavy and awkward to carry up stairs and push. This isn't much better. I find myself having the pull hard on the hose to get it to follow me which can't be any good for the hose but it's the only way to clean the carpets.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who actually wants to clean their floors as it has been a waste of time and money for me. The best thing about this product is its nice purple colour.
When we moved into our new flat and I was looking for a vacuum cleaner, all I had in mind was a small cylinder vacuum that would be easy to store away in the cupboard, as we didn't need a large upright hoover. I was placing an order on Tesco Direct and decided to just buy one from there at the same time, and that's when I came across this Vax cylinder vacuum. One of the main things which attracted it to me in the first place was the fact it's purple. Yes, ashamedly this is one of the main reasons why I bought this, combined with the fact Tesco offered free delivery when you bought this vacuum, something which they still offer now. Not only was this purple and small, it also cost £44.97 back in March 2010, and it's now £44 exactly on Tesco Direct so it hasn't changed much in price these past few months.
The Vax C91-PF1-B-T (what a mouthful!) boasts a powerful 1800W bagless suction with HEPA filtration. It's lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and comes with on-board tools. It is suitable for use on bath hard floors and carpets. It's also purple, did I mention that?
I found this vacuum cleaner very easy to set up, and in fact I didn't even open the instruction manual to put this together. This is because you only need to plug the hose connector into the main body until it clicks, and then push the extension tube onto the end of the handle before finally attaching the floor head. The tube can be lengthened or shortened by pushing a button in and sliding the tube up and down, I always need to extend this otherwise I end up hunched over when hoovering, this is especially so for my partner who is 6"4. When storing my vacuum away I simply disconnect the tube again making this easy to store. The body of the vacuum cleaner also has a carry handle making this easy to lift up when I'm storing it away, and also carrying it around my home. One great feature I love about this vacuum is how easily the cord is stored away. It has a Cord Rewind button and unlike other vacuum's I have used in the past, this actually works really well and the cord quickly winds itself up. Releasing the cord is also easy to do, and it has a yellow mark indicating the recommended cord length, it states not to exceed the cord length past the red mark.
The vacuum cleaner has a large On/Off button which is almost the same as the Cord Rewind button aside from the image, but if you're using this in a hurry or not paying much attention you may hit the wrong button. I have mainly carpet floors in my home aside from the kitchen and bathroom, for carpet cleaning you need to press the rocker switch on the floor head to raise the brushes. When using the floor head on a hard floor I press the switch to lower the brushes, very simple.
It comes with a few accessories, of which I've used a few times but I'm generally too lazy to faff about with them. They are easy to connect though by simply removing the tube and pushing in the desired accessory onto the end. Alternatively you can connect the floor head and attach the accessory at the very end, the choice is yours. The vacuum comes with a Crevice tool, a Dusting brush and an Upholstery tool all of which are self explanatory.
When it comes to emptying the dirt container I highly recommend reading the instructions first, unlike my partner who decided he didn't need to read the instructions. He's quite obsessive when it comes to emptying the dirt container in that he likes to do it every time the vacuum has been used, however he stated every time that the container is terrible, because the bottom opens up and empties the dirt all over the floor. After the fourth time he did this I took it upon myself to show him the instructions where he finally admitted he was doing it wrong! The process is quite simple really, and the pictures clearly show what needs to be done. You need to press some release buttons first, lift the container out of the vacuum, hold it over a dust bin and then press the dirt container release catch. It seems he was pressing this dirt release catch before he properly took the container out of the vacuum causing the dirt to go over the floor every single time.
The filter inside the vacuum can be separated into 3 separate parts making it easy to remove dirt, you can also rinse them in warm water and leave to air dry to give a better clean. There is also a post-motor filter on the back of the unit which again is easy to remove, and can be rinsed in warm water, but should be left to dry for 24 hours before replacing.
The suction of this little vacuum is actually really good. We have a kitten and it easily picks up any litter lying on the floor, and I sometimes use a Shake'n'Vac powder or a Vanish power foam carpet cleaner which the vacuum picks up completely without any problems nor leaving anything behind. It's really easy to use the vacuum as the base unit can be steered around easily, and the cord does have a decent length on it meaning I don't really have to swap power sockets too often. I have used it on carpets and hard floor's without any problems, and it's easy to use on my sofa's. It is a noisy vacuum, and it terrifies the life out of my 3 months old kitten, and probably annoys my neighbours downstairs but as it does have great suction it doesn't take long to get the job done.
I haven't really found any faults with this vacuum and I've had it for several months now. Considering this only cost me £45 I'm highly pleased with the good job it does, and I love the fact it's light weight and easy to store away, an essential for us living in a flat. Having a pet means I do use this frequently and it always picks up dirt and dust with ease. You can still buy from from Tesco Direct and it offers free delivery, alternatively they do state that this vacuum is available in some of their stores.
