A cost cutting alternative to hire (Vax Carpet Cleaner)

Advantages: light, easy to store, easy to use

Disadvantages: Not as powerful as some on the market

A toddler + a dog + cream carpets = a very bad combination.
I was appalled at the state of my carpet and it grieved me to pay (up to £40 a time) to hire a cleaner from my local hardware store. So my solution, i bought the vax rapid upright spring carpet cleaner. it has the following features

* Static brushbar gently agitates fibres to gently lift and loosen dirt and stains
* 2.6 litre clean water tank
* 2.4 litre dirty water tank
* Lightweight - easy to manoeuvre and store
* Handle lays flat for easy cleaning under and around furniture
* Easy to fill, empty, use and store

This as described is a light weith, yet powerful claenaer and reall does the job. It cost me around £60 (from a sit up auction tv channel, Bid tv), and has saved me a hell of a lot of money.

The cleaner is roughly the same size as a standard upright vacuum cleaner, and is really handy for an instant clean up of the everyday spills, (tea, coffee, and toddlers juice!)

It has two seperat and clearly defined tanks, clean and dirty water, so you wont get confused.

When i bought the cleaner it came free with a bottle of vax solution cleaner. Though now i tend to use the chaeper alternatives which work just as well (one even works better.)

The disadvantages of this product is that it is not as powerful as the one i used to hire, so you may find yourself going over more stubborn stains for a longer period of time. The other disadvantage is the fact that the water tanks are fairly small, so if your doing the whole carpet you find yourself emptying and refilling quite a bit, though this is an advantage when it comes to a quick clean up of a small spill because you are not going to waste much solution. I have also found that when i am doing a whole carpet clean i need to go both horzontal and vertical as the burshes tend to leave streaks.
The water tanks are easily removed and fairly easy to clean (the dirty water one can be a bit tricky)
This would be a good investment for any one who wants clean carpets, although it does take a while to get your carpet clean (because it is not the most powerful one on the market) it does do a pretty good job.

weighing up the costs;
I used to pay £40 approximately every 3 months to hire a cleaner, this amounts to £120 per year
I paid £60 for the cleaner and buy my solution from the pound store every month
So im making a saving of approximately £48 per year.

Though the main advantage opf owning one is the fact that you can clean up any spills instantly rather then sponging them and having to wait to go and hire or borrow a cleaner elsewhere.
