Advantages: It's small
Disadvantages: the filter needs cleaning thoroughly all the time
Before buying electrical products, I normally do quite a bit of research to ensure that it's a good investment before handing over my cash. For once, I did not. I had read some reviews of other vacuum cleaners online and seen a few that I knew not to buy. However, I was at a stage where I needed a new one quickly and when I saw the Vax G:2 Pet at £39.99 I was far too quick to hand over my cash. I thought that Vax was a quality brand and the specification of it seemed good at this price range, so I felt that it would be a good purchase. How wrong I was.
At first, it worked great but then after a couple of uses I began to find the suction wasn't as effective. So I cleaned it out and that seemed to improve it a bit, but still not the same as when I first used it. After a while, despite regular cleaning, it became pretty much useless so I switched to the other filter. This worked great but eventually the same problem occurred. A thorough cleaning out of the filter has helped matters but it's not really convenient at all to keep doing this on a regular basis as it's a time consuming and dirty job.
As it's a small vacuum cleaner it needs emptying regularly. This isn't too much of a problem, it's the fact that cleaning the filters is a lot more work than the manual suggests.
Due to the G:2's small size and the fact that the cord is retractable, it wasn't a problem to find a place to keep it despite the increasing lack of space in my flat. It's easy to use, as in terms of cleaning the floor, but most vacuum cleaners are! No problems with any of the attachments. They have so far survived regular use. There aren't any other positive points really.
Lessons learnt: don't impulse buy such products and do plenty of research! Although I could have researched more and only have myself to blame, I still feel put off using Vax products.
Summary: Attractively priced, but not a very good quality product
