I have just purchased a VAX Air Force Mach PET.... And given that VAX has invested little in TV advertising I wanted to tell you how fantastic it is. One thing that struck me to begin with was how totally different the new VAX machine is, how totally impressed I am with it in the now congested upright bagless market, why I made the move from another leading brand and I think my opinion is quite valid given my life circumstances. Here is my story... and I hope it helps you in your quest for a decent vacuum cleaner, with great suction and superbly neat functionality..... I'm not a singleton living in a small apartment and no kids... I am married and live with a large dog, living in a part of the countryside that is not far from a beach, and battle daily with the hardships of tidying up after 3 children (ages 3, 8 and 14).... the fact that my vacuum cleaner died a sudden death caused me to go into a little bit of a panic. I would usually look at reviews and research a product before I buy... but this time it was a case of a leap of faith and acceptance of the fact that because of my dire need, I would have to succumb to the stealthy ways of electrical store sales 'colleagues'. Prior to this acceptance I thought a little bit about what I didn't like about my (now deceased god rest its soul) Dyson. Like any relationship, my initial thoughts were full of dreams and the reason why we got together in the first place... but then with a little realism in my nostalgia I was quick to recall the tinsel strands blocking the filters, and the human hair extension wefts wrapping around the brush bar and causing the motor to emanate a smell that was reminiscent of rotting teeth (a former dental nurse, I am familiar with this smell - and I can assure you that it is vile). I also recalled trying to get my fingers up inside the chamber of filth in order to get the dog hair clumps, sand and whatever else my children had laid upon the carpet., out of it I also recalled the sand. Sand is an issue. It scuffs hard floors and gets trapped in carpet fibres and is perhaps the most stubborn but seemingly innocent spillage. At the same time I thought of the horrendous noise that this leading brand machine made when it was put to work on anything other than a cloud. So not being an angel and not living on a cloud, the machine prevented me from vacuuming later in the evening when my children were finally asleep. As I drove into the industrial estate that housed my chosen electrical store, I felt a surge of relief that I might now have an opportunity to lay down the gauntlet to a sales 'colleague', and hopefully not be swept away with the madness of Dyson branding. Walking through the doors, as they slid open, I was making a mental note about what I wanted but then I was faced with 'her'. The sales 'colleague' with drawn on eyebrows, a pierced tongue and (lets face it) no idea of why my vacuum cleaner purchase was so intrinsically important to me. So I simply perused the vacuum cleaning section. But everything looked the same. Then I saw it. I saw a dark purply pinky and silver machine that pitched itself as the WORLDS MOST POWERFUL UPRIGHT CLEANER. Looking at it closer, I was somewhat perplexed. The VAX machine that I was now crouching down to look at looked small. And it seemed to have a hole at the top of the handle..... Like as though something was missing. So I looked at the little brochure that were hanging from it... It was all there..... But my confusion (as I soon found out) was caused by my ignorance of what is simply the most innovative vacuum cleaner that I have seen in my life. I now felt that the VAX Air Force Mach PET required a bit of a demo, needed a little explanation from one of the bustling sales 'colleagues'. The girl with the (lack of) eyebrows was now busy and a 'team leader' came to my aid.
He told me about the functions and features.... Which I listened to but wasn't particularly impressed because I felt as though I could have read that on the brochure. So I told him about my needs.. I was almost sold when he mentioned that the machine looked small because the height of it could be adjusted so that various members of the family would be comfortable using the machine irrespective of height. I was totally sold when he explained how much better than a Dyson this machine would be with regard to having a dog. He demonstrated the power attachment - that latches on simply to the main hose and has what felt like the most amazing suction on my hand. He also showed me how neatly the machine hosted its attachments - and at that point I thought about my 3 year old who was forever stealing various nozzles from my now deceased cleaner. It looked beautiful and with a 6 year guarantee I purchased it. Fantastic.
On the basis that all sales demos look great in store I put the machine together as per the instructions and put it to the test in my kitchen. I noticed that the suction was so great that the crumbs under the table were sucked up from a grand 5 or 6 inches away. With the brush control on the front it was easy to change the height of the brush and with the innovative hose and attachments it was the quickest that I have been able to clean under my table, under my cupboards and small patches on my rug. Once finished, I peered into the chamber of filth and discovered Christmas tree needles! - given that its now June, and given that I had been vacuuming the kitchen everyday with my Dyson.... I was stunned!.... So I cleaned the chamber out again and rinsed it. I was wondering how good this could be. Given that there is a lot of dust in carpets I vacuumed the rug again. To my amazement - although it looked clean the first time I did it - although my rug looked brighter than it had since I bought it - the chamber had a quite noticeable layer of brown fine dirt. Recalling the bronzing powder that had been trodden into my bedroom carpet last summer I excitedly took the (really light weight) machine upstairs and put the power brush to work on my brown patch on my lilac rug. Within a few seconds the bronzer was gone so with its massively long cord I left it plugged in and got to work in my beastly teenagers room and the younger crumb invested rooms. I was quickly satisfied and felt somewhat irritated that I didn't get one of these before. VAX's Air Force Mach PET is the best upright cleaner that I have ever purchased. It's a quiet machine and I can now clean in the evenings; Its quite small and easy to put away; the cord is massively long; its easy to clean the filters and the way that it manages pet hair is FANTASIC. If you have a dog that moults... buy this machine. It puts the Dyson Animal to shame. It really does.
This vac was bought for me because I am disabled and own a dog, and what a marvel it has turned out to be,
I can carry it upstairs with one hand and pick up my pet hair too.
Seriously though this vac picks up fluff and hair as well as any of the heavier cyclonic vacs, and it is so easy to use, I can vaccum my lounge in minutes then press a button and vaccum my wooden kitchen floor.
It is slim enough to vac under my table and chairs and also my setee and chair in my lounge, this vac is a lightweight heavy duty model and does a good job of making my carpets look clean and hair free.
I tried the tools on my curtains and pelmets and it made light work of the dust, I also used them on my stair
carpet and it came up a treat. I understand I can buy an extension for the hose which will make doing the stairs a little easier.
My only fault is the cylinder is a little small which means I have to empty it every time I use the vac, which is I
suppose what I am supposed to do, but which I rarely do, but another plus is the filters are washable.
A great product.
I have two very hairy dogs and have never enjoyed hoovering up the quantity of hair they generate - until now that is! The Vax Mach Air Pet is small, light with fierce suction - my place has never been so clean. I can carry it whilst cleaning the stairs, and can reach the top on the lead length. Emptying the small bin is no problem as it is gone with just a click.
It is so much easier to use than my big, heavy hoover, only bought one year ago (an expensive mistake), can't bear to use any more. The Vax Mach Air Pet moves light as a feather, lies flatter, hose detaches easier for adding tools, fairly quiet - brilliant! Can't say about durability yet, but it can't be worse than a Dyson I had which needed a new hose every year when it broke.
Only slight problem when using the stair tool is that with the suction being so strong, it tightens up the hose making it really short, but I can't say it doesn't do the job because it does.
Mach Air Pet Vacuum
Having tested this machine using it daily I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who requires perfection in disposing of pet hair, when vacuuming carpets. Being a long haired Persian cat owner there has always been great difficulty in removing cat fur no matter what make of vacuum I used. However this model makes short work of the problem making it in my opinion a real first in this field.
It is very light weight, quiet and easy to use and manipulate in awkward corners if required when, using it on stairs the beater bar can be switched off. The beater bar is also very easy to remove if not required. The small head allows you get into those awkward spots. When you are finished using the machine it can be stored way unobtrusively as it is a mini size.
This model comes with 3 tools including a turbo brush which really comes in handy, particularly on stairs. The height and recline buttons are very easy to use, and makes the experience of using them a delight. Of course there are little things which improved would make owning one of these even more desirable. It really could do with a longer cord as in my opinion the one supplied it too short. The tools do not fit on very securely and often fall off unfortunately.
If I were you I would I would try to get one of these superb machines, as I can assure you it will be a joy to own, and a pleasure to use.
This is the first upright vacuum I have had. The adjustable handle is brilliant - no more backache! The tool storage on the rear is clever so everything is at hand. It is very quiet, not noisy like my other vacuums have been, and a lot more powerful. The buttons for on/off and the brush controllers at the top, no more bending down!!
The cable is a good length; I can plug in and do the whole of the downstairs and the stairs without having to change sockets. Emptying is quick and easy.
I like the way I can just unclip the hose, slide out the handle and connect the tools it's so easy. The hose reaches halfway up my stairs, I don't have to move the Vax, even though it is lightweight.
Storing is easy as it takes up little space and using it, is brilliant. To say this has made a difference to my life may sound silly, but it has! Vacuuming takes a lot less time and effort and the carpets are a lot cleaner, it is no longer a chore! Dust and pet hair no longer live in my carpets!
I have been searching for the ideal vacuum for years and this is as near perfect as I have found:
Its lightweight, powerful and well designed; bagless, easy to empty and use and has all the filter thingies needed to help keep my asthma under control. It is flexible and light enough to do jobs anywhere in the house. The previous reviewer mentioned the relatively short lengh of the power cable, I don't find this a problem as I am in a smallish modern house, and would prefer to use an extension cable if need be, rather than have to have any extra cable on the vacuum.
Its simple to use, no massive manual, basically you switch on and go. It has a motorised brush which you can switch on and off as required, this has an automatic cutoff, if anything gets tangled in it, a red flashing light tells you to clear the brush and all you have to do is press the reset button, and away you go again.
Its very quiet to use, easy to store as most bits fit on to it, the adjustable handle even doubles as the extension tube.
I would recomend it to anyone, but especially pet owners.
This is the best vacuum cleaner I have owned, beating my old Dyson DC08 Animal (which broke down after 2 years), a Henry and a Morphy Richards pet. What I love about this vacuum cleaner is its simplicity. One button at the top of the machine changes between floor types, i.e. wooden and carpet. No more bending to the bottom of our old vacuum cleaner and struggling to change floor types between rooms. The handle can be adjusted for multiple heights with ease. The whole machine is so light weight that even my 3 year old can happily manoeuvre it around!!
The cord storage is deep enough to hold the entire lead and plug very securely. For me the design is great and because of the wide front bristle it manages to pick up debris at the edges of walls and furniture where my previous vacuum cleaners would not pick up.
Also the compact size means it can go further under furniture without having to swap to the other accessories. It comes with clear and concise instructions that are easy to follow. It picks up all of the animal hair (cat, guinea pigs) really well. The suction is very strong, however unlike other vacuum cleaners this strong suction is not a monster, and does not eat up everything: wires, rugs etc. If something is stuck in the front bristles, a red button flashes to tell you it has happened and the bristles then automatically stop rotating, a simple push of a button resets. The design allows easy cleaning and emptying and I also like the reusable filters.
The only minor issues are that when removing the power cord from the cord storage, this often knocks off the hose accessories which are stored at the back. It doesn't always pick up larger items of dirt, eg. guinea pig waste; it pushes it around instead of picking it up. I can however use the hose and attachments here very quickly.
Unfortunately, I now have no excuse; vacuuming my house is so quick and easy!
This Vax vacuum is just so amazing it is slimline, lightweight but so very powerful. I own a Vax carpet washer which i am very impressed with. My old vacuum was heavy, hard to empty and refit and difficult to get upstairs.
So i thought i would get a Vax vacuum cleaner. The suction is fantastic it picks up everything fluff, cottons, hairs the lot. My carpet looks so good. I have 2 dogs and also dog board and it is just brilliant. It is so easy to use and also easy to empty. At a press of a button you can change from carpets to hard floors and it works just as brilliant on them. The attachments are very useful. It has a telescopic handle so you can adjust the height and when you want to store it you can push the handle down. The front is low so you can even get under the furniture. The buttons are easy to get too and no bending down required. The cord is not extra long but what hassle is it just changing to another socket some may say that this is a disadvantage but i dont think it is. It safe tripping over the cord or getting it caught on something and when you wind the cord up it fits on the back without having the plug or cord falling off.
If you have or have not got pets but want something powerful and slimline or if you have trouble lifting or carrying and you want something lightweight and powerful this is the best. Also it is not too noisy unlike most vacuums.
I never thought i would say this about a vacuum cleaner but the Vax Maxh Pet Air actually makes the job a pleasure.
Top quality and Top performance I cannot recommend this machine enough.
After using the Vax Mach Air I came to the conclusion that I miss my old vacuum cleaner.
While the suction itself is actually stronger than my old one, and picks up most of what dirt can be found on the floor, and don't have to go over the same area very often.
The length of the cable is 6 metres, which isn't long enough for me, as I can't reach some of the areas I used to be able to without having to change plugs, which is a bit of a bother you don't really want to put up with. To give you an idea of how much shorter it is, with my old hover I could do the whole upstairs of my house without changing the plug once, but now I have to change plug 3 times.
The weight of the hover is very good at 4.9kg and is easy for carrying around the house, not giving you too much of a workout while doing so, which is useful since you'll need to move it from plug to plug quite often.
The hose is 1.1m long, and like the cable is not as long as I would prefer. This makes it especially difficult when doing the stair as you can't use the hose to reach the length of the stairs, so you have to carry the hover up with you, making it very difficult carrying the weight of the hover in one hand and the hose in the over while crouched down trying to clean your way up the stairs.
Another problem I have with the hose is that it's too powerful, when you put the nozzle against the area you are trying to clean, it sucks up so much that it pulls the hover towards it whacking you in the arm in the process, making those hard to reach places even harder to clean.
The hover isn't too large so is quite easy to store away for an upright vacuum cleaner. It is quite easy to manoeuvre thanks to its light weight, and height can be adjusted to suit the user.
Overall I would not recommend this hover as the wires aren't long enough and the hose doesn't work very well. If you need a hover for a small flat it might not be so bad, but my personal experience from it, is that hovering is much more difficult since buying it.
Mach Air2 is the lightest full size multi-cyclonic upright vacuum cleaner in the world / It has all the cleaning power and capacity of a conventional upright but weighs a third less / This makes it easy to carry from room to room and use with minimum effort / Its slim compact design means it takes up less storage space too / It has high level H12 HEPA filtration so it's a good choice for allergy sufferers / Short name: Vax U91-MA-P
