Price and Availability
Our old Panasonic Vacuum Cleaner packed up at the beginning of December, with brilliant timing just before Christmas we had to look for an affordable replacement. I like to keep a tidy home but my partner is a bit of a clean freak so it was important that we got a decent cleaner for our money. Although we don't have a pet, I knew from experience using my Mum's vacuum that they're a lot more efficient at picking up bits from the floor and living in an old building we always seem to have loads of dust. We had a look around and the Vax Power 9 seemed to be what we were looking for at a reasonable price. As money was tight we ended up buying ours from Very on an interest free pay weekly scheme for the total cost of £100. The vacuum is also available at various other places online and sells at Argos for just under £120.

The vacuum has a very modern appearance, it's an upright model and is coloured in mainly silver with a few touches of red. The bagless vacuum has got a clear plastic container on the front with a capacity of five litres which houses all the bits sucked up from the floor.

When getting our new vacuum out of the box it was fairly easy to put together, the only thing to do really was attach the hose. Having said that though we did have a couple of problems with what attachments went where as the pictures in the manual aren't that clear but it only took us a couple of minutes to figure it out.
When unwinding the power cord I was pleased with just how long it is, at 10m long it seems to stretch a lot further than our older model did. When switching the vacuum on for the first time I was aware that it was quite noisy, our old vacuum was as well though, but our Vax is even louder.
The vacuum has three setting, low carpet, high carpet and hard floor, all of which work really well in the areas they are meant to. I have to say that the vacuum feels really heavy to push, especially on the low carpet setting. The vacuum really seems to suck down onto the carpet, but if it means a really good clean I don't mind putting the extra effort in and I suppose it means I burn a few extra calories. It can be quite hard to change from the different floor type settings, although I find it's easier if I switch off the vacuum and lift the front of it off the floor. This is where there's a little section which lifts up and down to adjust to the flooring types.
Using the hose is easy, although the vacuum does seem to tip over if you try to reach too far with it. The attachments for the vacuum are good, with an extendable hose which is good for skirting boards and reaching the corners of the ceiling. There's also one of those little oblong brushes for dusting. There's also the Vax Turbo Tool which really is a nifty piece of kit, it's like a deep cleaning device for your carpets and upholstery which attaches to the hose. The spinning reels on the Turbo Tool suck up extra bits and is especially useful in corners. My Dad's used it on his car seats before after their dog had been in and I have to say I was shocked at just how well it worked.
I have to say that since using the Vax Power 9 I've been really impressed with just how clean my floors look. Especially when using the vacuum for the first time I was shocked at just how much dust and different bits had been picked up from my carpet which I have always previously presumed had been clean.
For us, the Vax Power 9 is a great vacuum cleaner. I have to say though it is a little heavy so would not be suitable for everybody. The power cord and hose are a good length and all in all the cleaning I've experience with this vacuum has been very good. There's a number of handy tools which come with this Vax and for the price paid I think it's a very good buy.
