Advantages: Light, good suction

Disadvantages: poor build quality, noisey, cable and hose too short.

Brought this vacuum from Argos back in October. We were needing something to replace our old vacuum and our spec was to find something upright, cheap, and light. The VEU-02 seemed to tick all the boxes and with the VAX name we felt that it would be a well built vacuum.

Unfortunately the essentials range of vacuums seem like they were built in a cheap factory by another company only to be branded with the VAX name.

This vax has a fair bit of power and sucks well, and it is pretty light meaning its easy to carry up and down the stairs (this is good as you need to hold it on the stairs while cleaning them)

The plastic feels cheap and nasty and scratches easily, it makes loads of horible noises like it is dying when running and the main head always spins even when using the hose, the plastic wheels wobble, the clip which holds the vacuum up when not in use has broken on mine, the hose is short and none stretchy, the cable is too short, the accessories feel flimsy (with the exception of the power head which feels like its from one of the other VAX models).

The chamber which collects the dust/dirt is poorly designed in a way that you can't empty it unless you dismantle it every time as it is tapered down towards the hatch which is meant to be used to empty it. As said above the vacuum does have a fair bit of suction and as such the chamber fills up quickly, the filter seems to work well and it doesn't seem to leak any dust like others have suggested but as you need to dismantle the chamber every time you empty it you do seem to drop a lot of dust on the floor so its best done outside.

I'm afraid to say that I really don't like this vacuum and even if you are on a budget I would recommend that you avoid it if at all possible.

The vacuum cost us £49 and a week later we saw a much better model in Tesco for only about £10 more.

You are spot on when you say that the Essentials range feels like they were built in a cheap factory by another company - aside from the VX uprights and their old tub canisters most of their vacuums come from Dirt Devil of the USA which are made in China - and are therefore built to a budget. Some more info would be good here such as the noise level and filtration. Also I think you mean "dying," as opposed to dieing.
