Advantages: Fantastic suction, loads of different tools, 6 year guarentee

Disadvantages: Heavy machine to push around

After my much loved Electrolux ceased to exist last week I desperately needed a new vacuum cleaner. Our first choice was to buy a Dyson but they are so expensive. So I had a look round on the net and saw some great reviews for this machine. We decided to buy one because all the reviews were saying how great it is.

I bought mine from Comet and if you reserve it online it costs £99. The instore price is £149 and the normal selling price is £249. You can also get the it delivered to your home for £5.95 if you order it online, but as we have a Comet store in the town I decided just to go and pick it up.

The box it comes in is quite big, but it did fit in my little Fabia on the back seat, there's no way it would fit in the boot though. It is also quite heavy so the shop assistant kindly brought it out to the car for me aswell.

When I got it home and opened the box I was quite surprised at how easy it is to put it together. there are two screws on the top of the main part of the cleaner which you have to do undo, you take off the cardboard notice and fix the handle on. It is quite stiff to push in, but you are actually connecting the electrics up aswell, so after a good shove it clicks in really well. You then put the screws back in and it's ready to go.

The machine is very nice looking. All black with chrome effect buttons and there is even a headlight on the front of the vacuum. Not too sure why it is there, but it looks quite funky! It says on the front that it uses wind tunnel technology, and the brushes certainly spin round quickly.

I was very surprised at how well the machine picks up, considering it is only a 1500 watt. It is definitely better than my Electrolux which was a 1600 and my Dyson which gave up the ghost years ago. I also got a 6 year guarentee with the Vax which is a year longer than Dyson are offering at the moment, you have to register your purchase within a month for it to be valid.

The Mach 7 comes with a plethera of tools all of which are very good and it doesn't lose suction at all when they are used. You get a brilliant stair cleaning tool, which has it's own brush in it and it picks every last bit of fluff up. You don't have to balance the hoover on the stairs either because the hose reaches from the bottom to about three stairs down in my house, and then I just take the hoover upstairs and do the last three from the top down. It comes with two pipes and a crevace tool and also a great attachment for cleaning the floors which turns the machine into a pull around.

This Vax is bagless and emptying it couldn't be easier. You just click off the chamber and push the button at the bottom. All the contents fall into the bin, it couldn't be easier. There is HEPA filter aswell, which is a lifetime filter and you just wash it when it becomes dirty, let it dry and pop it back into the machine. I love that the cord is an auto rewind one so no more messing on after the hoovering is finished, you just push a button and away it whizzes.

You can use this vacuum cleaner on all floors and it is also suitable for pet hair. The only downside I have found with it, is that the machine is quite heavy to push around, but I quite like this as it feels very sturdy and great quality.

I really would recommend this machine to anyone. I definitely think it is better than my previous Dyson on all counts and certainly better than my Electrolux. Considering the amount of money I paid for it, I feel I got a great bargain and I am pleased I didn't spend a fortune on another Dyson.

Summary: This is better than a Dyson and looks fab aswell

I really liked my Mach 7 but found that the filters had to be washed just as the manual said every 3 months and the weight just got too much ploughing it through carpet despite the height adjustment dial. The auto cord rewind is a neat and welcome touch though; well covered here!
