Advantages: Backpack , Very Lightweight, Dust Bag - less
Disadvantages: Cost, Bulk of attachments, Dry-cleaning system
Having been subjected to and had a trial use of the Vorwerk range of Vacuum cleaners I have very much mixed feelings about them. The sales pitch of the visiting salesman was excellent - very convincing, and very knowledgeable of the way in which a standard 'beater and suck' upright vacuum cleaner worked against his more 'professional cleaning system'. I must admit that the Vorwerk really does do its job, and the carpets in the house have been shown to be cleaner through the use of the cleaning system. However, I don't think that the cost of the cleaning system really justifies spending the money - the salesman will show you the full range of adaptors and tools, and the total cost is somewhere over £1000! The dry-cleaning system, which takes the form of a massager, and various spot and standard carpet cleaning granules does not work as well as the Rug-Doctor which can be hired at a resonable price from your local DIY store, and the need for a separate motorised carpet vibrator and suction system seems to have been dispelled by the better cyclone / bag-less vacuums such as Dyson. I would say that the back-pack arrangement for use in high situations (ie up a ladder or cleaning the car interior) is a welcomed advantage not offered by many rival companies. All in all, a very costly piece of equipment, and the cost of which would be better used employing a person to do the job rather than spend the time having to cart two or three hold-alls worth of equipment around with you.

- 10/12/05 I am always amazed when I read about the Vorwerk cleaner because I used to sell these systems years ago, and they are by far the most effective and best value cleaner on the market today. As I say I used to sell them and after that I used them for my own house and I know of several ex-demonstrators who used them in their carpet cleaning businesses. I wonder who demonstrated it because they obviously missed out some very important information about carpets and cleaning them.
1: - You should NEVER shampoo carpet; I believe that both Axminster and Wilton carpets recommend only dry cleaning. Vorwerk are as far as I know the only carpet manufacturer in the world that makes cleaning systems as well.
2: - Vorwerk have been producing vacuum cleaners for many years, often before other people such as Hoover etc. They are incredibly reliable outlasting many times the so called types of vacuum cleaners such as Dyson etc. They have also been demonstrating these around Europe and other countries for many years, as they have always believed that these kind of products need top be proven.
3: - During the demonstration the demonstrator should have done a comparison test to show how much dirt any other vacuum cleaner leaves behind – including the Kirby. It is fairly obvious that when someone shows you that any other cleaner doesn’t work very well that in fact they are the costly piece of equipment, because they are not doing the cleaning properly. This has been the basis of the Vorwerk demonstration for over 30 years because if you can show the quality of the product and then show people that other cleaners don’t actually do very much, then the price is more logical.
4: - Vorwerk invented a lot of things on vacuum cleaners that most people don’t realise, the powered brush for example. In a way they are obsessed with the quality of their cleaners because they are so proud of their carpets.
5: - I have been amazed at how much use you can get out of the attachments and the dry cleaner system. The dry cleaner has kept many carpets going longer than they would have done than if they had been wet cleaned, as eventually they would have rotted, as they never dry out immediately, as they do with a dry cleaner.
6: - The cost of the Vorwerk is normally around £500, not £1,000 as stated if people want more information, they can contact Vorwerk UK in Wokingham Berks, as they will have up-to-date prices. The other fact that makes Vorwerk a great bargain is its life-span. I have seen a working model 35 years old on a demonstration, the motor in the head was not working and the lady phoned Vorwerk who obtained a new motor and fitted it for £35, not bad eh?
My advice to anyone that has asthma or allergies is to have a free demonstration at home and see what comes out of the mattress. It was the reason I joined as a demonstrator many years ago because after the cleaning of my mattress my dust-allergy went forever. |
